Ross Pierschbacher

When a school has the best recruits every single year they are going to put a lot of guys in the NFL. I've also seen people on this board say Kentucky is a good place to go if you want to get to the NBA.

That's because it is a good place to go. Calipari's main goal is to get his players to the NBA as quickly as possible. He's said so on many occasions publicly. He even said that when Kentucky had 4 first round picks a few years ago that it was the greatest day in Kentucky basketball history. Wildcat fans lost their minds over it.

He forces his players to play defense otherwise they don't step on the court. He knows that playing good defense will keep you employed in the NBA.

He comes off as a sleeze bag but I'll give him credit for being honest. He's not trying to sell kids on any bullshit college education nonsense like other coaches. He wants them in the NBA as quickly as they can and encourages his players to go as quickly as they can.

My recollection when Ross was being recruited was that he wanted to play guard. I don't know his thought process, but it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out that Ferentz would have pressured him to immediately play tackle because he would have been the best or second best lineman on the team as a freshman or RS freshman.

He made the right call going to Alabama. The guy went up against the best every week save for a couple of weeks when Bama plays a few softer teams. He got to go toe to toe with those sick interior linemen from Mississippi State, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, etc. He and the left tackle were the lone bright spots on that o-line this year.

He is way more NFL ready than he would have been had he gone to Iowa. Unless he gets hurt, I could see him easily sticking in the League for a decade and making some Pro Bowls. That kid can play and he has already prepped against way better talent than playing against cupcakes in the Big Ten West every week.

Wrong.

B1G West > SEC West

Don't bother. OK4P is a big Bama homer. He is the definition of dual loyalty. It's all Iowa and all Bama until they clash then it's just Bama for him.

Any fan of college football has to appreciate the dynasty Nick has built. Same with Dabo. Those guys are class acts who do it the right way and they now have an annual game in January. They just need to schedule a playoff game between them in Atlanta every year so the fans can get there easily.

I am pretty skeptical about the "doing it right" thing, but one certainly must marvel at their prowess. Cheating doesn't equal being that good on it's own.

Yea but can you really point out stats of how many guys get drafted as proof that he develops talent? If so, he must be extraordinary at it because he turns them into NBA players in only 1 year.

I follow the recruiting in Texas and some guys are just wired to leave the state as recruits, they want to get away from where they are at. Same for Florida kids or California kids. Some guys just want to go out of state. Even the big schools will have a few guys who got away that the fans remember for years afterwards.

I also think his chances of being arrested on a motor scooter would have been significantly higher at Iowa than at most other institutions.

I get it if you want to leave an armpit like Florida, California or Texas, but why would anyone leave Iowa?

So you play in games of significance in the regular season, including preseason, as well as postseason every year
Look, I'm too lazy to look it up, but I think Iowa has been bowl eligible every year bince 2001 except for that miserable 4-8 season. They're routinely in the mix for some pretty big games, like the TaxSlayer Bowl and Pinstripe Bowl to name a few. Iowa always has games with massive significance during the season with Iowa State, Nebraska and Illinois on the schedule every year. Good old fashioned in state rivalries and border war games. Those are what make college football great.

I think you're completely missing the point here. Nobody is arguing that Iowa is comparable to Alabama as far as NCAA success on the field. Nobody.

I don’t care where Ross got drafted or any of the discussion about where he might have been drafted if he had come to Iowa.

I am just pissed because we would have had a better OL with him here than without him. Did it cost us wins? We will never know, but my guess is “yes.”

I recall hearing the knock on Cyrus Kouandjio when he was drafted in the second round of the 2014 draft was his fundamentals were poor. Top lineman coming out of high school, he was so athletic, he was a good bet to go to the NFL. I've never heard this complaint about an Iowa lineman.

Has he ever been interviewed to get his retrospective view now that his college career is done? I would love to hear his thoughts after the fact.

I think it was pretty simple: Bama paid up, he wouldn't be under a microscope, especially if his team wasn't good, oh, and Bama paid up.
