Rate Bowl

I watched a bi of the game, saw Nestor get an interception.

I was a bit surprised to learn that Fleck is undefeated in bowl games as the Minnesota coach. With the OT win he's now 7-0.

They play the worst or 2nd worst B1G affiliate bowl every year so it's not really a high award overall

This. Also, what it may show is that they have better talent than their record indicates, which means the 7-0 record shows that Fleck is the opposite of a good coach. On the other hand, it seems more often than not, Iowa gets picked for bowls that may be better than our talent should be playing in. How many times does the bowl game get announced and we think "ugh, this is going to be bad"? This year we're playing one of the first few teams out of the CFP. Maybe our coaches are too good.

Compare/Contrast. Before the coaching change it was looking like a ISU/Minnesota bowl game…an intact ISU team is better, IMO, but Minnesota would have made it interesting.

Ranking Fleck's record in the Big Ten since 2017 in order of accomplishments.

Respectable part of the list.
7-1 Nebraska - You go girl.
5-4 Wisconsin - Respectable
1-1 Penn State - Big win in 2019 against 11-2 Penn State.
7-0 In bowls against mostly lower tier winning teams. Best win 9-4 Auburn 2019.
3-1 Michigan State - Lost a close game against a 10-3 Michigan State team.
5-3 Purdue - Beat a 9-4 team in 21; lost to a 4-8 team in 23.
1-0 Respectable win against 7-6 So-Cal team.
1-0 UCLA - Better than Iowa did.

Meh
3-1 Rutgers - Should be 4-0
4-4 Illinois - Too many bad losses.
2-0 Indiana – Nothing notable
3-4 Northwestern - Only beat the NW teams that didn't show up.
0-4 Ohio State – Inevitable.

Hall of Shame
0-4 Michigan - Double Meh
3-3 Maryland - Need to circle these games.
1-8 Iowa - They huffed and puffed but the bronze pig stayed home.

2019 was by far their best year. I wonder if Fleck will ever match it again at Minnesota.

I don't know why I spent time on this.

The interesting part is how well Fleck has done against Neb and Wisc while stinking against Iowa. If Fleck could have just figured out how to beat Iowa, he would have a couple of Big Ten West titles by now (and would probably be coaching at higher level school by now)

The other interesting thing is how Minn can find coaches with long runs of being decent but just can't break through to ever win a title. Glenn Mason pretty much did the same thing for years. Decent teams that could never win a title.
