The short answer is that I'm not sure how long is the leash.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
-Gary Barta hired Fran so that automatically gives him more leash. Barta firing Fran means that he is admitting he hired the wrong guy, or, at least, the guy that can't take the program to the desired level. Barta also already fired a mistake in Lickliter, which resulted in a buyout.
-As bad as things look now, the season is not over. We have to see how it plays out. You can't evaluate a season before it's completed. The season can't be saved but at least this group can show some promise and gain some momentum heading into next year.
-I absolutely think Fran is back for at least next year. He has time to fix things. Perhaps guys transfer, opening up the opportunity to address the backcourt deficiencies.
-I don't see Fran's seat being hot right now. If he misses the NCAA Tournament next year, then it will be. That would be a three-year drought.
