READ THIS COLUMN BY HLAS (RE: Iowa and the CBI)

As I've said in other posts, you have to think it's the B1G making that call here and Barta is trying to make it sound as good as he can.

Your logic was that playing in the CBI would be used against us in recruiting. I think it's safe to say that it'd be even worse to be sitting on the couch.

Uh, not well played. Lame in fact. No team from a power conference, ie B1G, B12, SEC has ever, EVER played in the CBI. It ain't better than sitting at home or someone would've played by now.

A recruit is not going to make a decision based upon if a team played or didn't play in the CBI. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a good chunk of recruits who didn't even know what the CBI was.

BTW, in basketball there is no better "power" conference than the Big East and the ACC and both of those conferences had a school play in the CBI.

Omg, they played in the CBI!!!!!! I think I better go to Illinois.

Then you are very dense. Recruits absolutely want to know what chance a team has to play in the NCAA's. Anybody playing in the CBI from a power conference is going to be laughed at by every other team that has never and will never play in that joke of a tourney.

No, you have absolutely no clue what recruits are thinking. Iowa has not been to any post season tournament since 2006, I am sure most other schools already have that recruiting advantage. After 5 years of NO post season tournaments the CBI is a step forward. You seriously think Gesell and Woodbury are sitting at home thinking how embarrassing the school they are going to next year might play in the CBI? Based on your reasoning Iowa should refuse a bid into the NIT as well, hell that is embarrassing!

When did I say that? NIT is light years ahead of the CBI. NCAA is the varsity tourney. NIT is the JV. CBI is for 3rd graders.

So let's see. Every school in the B1G agrees with me. Every school in the B12 agrees with me. Every school in the SEC agrees with me.

Then there's you.
We ain't going to the CBI. Get over it. Good night.

Get a grip on yourself!

No tournament outside the NCAA matters. No recruit cares if Iowa went to the NIT or the CBI and that is a fact. What recruits care about is if you are always sitting at home in March or in the NCAA tournament. There is no recruit ever that has made his decision based on the schools ability to get an invite to the NIT over the CBI.

This. I agree -- the NIT is only slightly less embarrassing and pathetic than the CBI. We need to get to Barta and let him know that he maybe shouldn't even be considering that.

Since when are the Big East and ACC not power 6 conferences (they've both had representatives in the CBI)? Idiot.

There actually are some solid teams that play in the CBI, even if they're mid-majors. You don't think a Creighton would have been a solid test for Iowa last year, or even this year?

Just because conferences (like the Big Ten, for instance) have an elitist attitude doesn't make sitting at home a better option than the CBI. For programs in Iowa's boat, a tournament like this is DEFINITELY better than sitting on the couch. For a Michigan State if they somehow won only 10 games next year? No. But for a program coming out of the worst stretch in program history? ANY postseason tournament would be good for us, because it marks progress, far more than sitting at home would.
