READ THIS COLUMN BY HLAS (RE: Iowa and the CBI)

When has he pined for the CBI?
Here's a list of teams in last years CBI
Oregon, Weber State, Duquesne , Montana, UCF, St. Bonaventure, Rhode Island, Miami (Ohio), Boise State, Austin Peay, Creighton, San Jose State, Evansville, Hofstra, Davidson, James Madison.

That will get used against us in recruiting.
"Hey, Mr. All American. Iowa is playing to reach the CBI. Do you really want to play Hofstra in the post season? Sign with us. We're heading for the NCAA's."

There's a reason there's only one power conference team listed.
There's nothing to gain for Iowa. I know as fans nobody wants it to end. But I gotta agree with Barta. NIT or nuttin.

Creighton: 2011 CBI runner up. They've been ranked all year this year and are bound for the NCAA.

VCU 2010: CBI champ. 2011 Final Four participant. It's not like teams destined to be mediocre forever are the only teams that play in this tournament.

And besides, what do you think will get used against us in recruiting if we don't accept an invite? Sitting on the couch is more desirable?

...what's the penalty for accepting the invite against the conference's wishes? I don't get the feeling we'd be kicked out for going to the CBI. So why not tell the conference to shove it in this instance?

The penalty? They'll put all of our kickoffs at 11am, and make the BBall team play on Sundays and any other off-day

Oh, wait...

Interesting article spank. I say why not? My question is how is playing in this tourney, any different than a football team playing in a so called lesser bowl game? More practices, more games, it's all good isn't it?
Yes, it is.....

I would like to see the team play another game or two, no matter where or when.....

Well if you can't refute my logic...........thanks for playing.

Your logic was that playing in the CBI would be used against us in recruiting. I think it's safe to say that it'd be even worse to be sitting on the couch.

The only downside that I see is losing badly to another also ran.....

However, I am certain that we will not face another team that comes close to the Spartans coached by Tom Izzo. It would be interesting to play a school from another conference at this point in time. We are light years beyond the start of the season....

Who knows for certain about the NIT, certainly a very long shot, but we did receive a lot of national attention lately. Beating Wisconsin and Indiana and Matt's excellent run of threes.....

I will be very surprised by a NIT bid, but wouldn't mind watching the Hawks play again.....

:)

Barta is starting to get annoying. I feel bad for the players that their AD more or less feels it's embarrassing to play in the CBI, when the coaches and players want to represent and improve. Mind boggling.

I don't want the CBI. If we're not going to the NIT I hope today was our last game.
