OT: Vacation

You do realize weeds in a lake is a good thing, don't you? Also, to have weeds in a lake, the lake must have clear water so the sunlight can penetrate. The deeper sunlight can penetrate in a lake the deeper weeds can grow.

There are invasive species such as E Milfoil, but, they are pretty much everywhere.

I'm not going to argue.
If it's your gig, so be it. Personally I think if you think the place is all that you need to get out more, but that's just my opinion.

Dude, I’ve been on most major lakes in Minnesota, like Big Winnie, Leech, Mille Lacs, Rainy River, potato Lake, white fish chain, etc. if u can’t realize we have a gem or something different in West Okoboji than that’s your problem. It is just different up there. The closest thing to the northern lakes we have in Iowa. Actually with West Okoboji we have one of the 3 or 4 blue lakes in the world. Why u want to live your life so negative and bitter. Appreciate what is around you for once.

Krist. You don’t think lakes in Minnesota are dealing with this? Yep, it’s only happening in NW Iowa. o_O

Since you live in Durant, allow me to totally derail this thread and ask... What the hell is going on with the police dept there??

Three counties merge in the SE part of Durant....Cedar (the majority of Durant), Scott and Muscatine. The Cedar County Sheriff has a beef with one of the Durant cops, the Durant police force in general, and, a long simmering feud with the aforementioned Durant cop's wife.

Basically, no Durant officer can currently process any perp suspected of Cedar County malfeasance in Tipton. Bummer.

The bright side is we don't have any round-a-bouts in Durant....or stop lights, or a single stop sign along HWY6 (unless the school guard is posting). You can bust through town in a matter of seconds.

I do appreciate what is around me.
I too have been going up north fishing since I was a child. Lived in Minnesota. Seen muskie through 7ft of water coming in to spawn. Have friends with property on the rainy river.
I've been around a little.
It's one of the things I actually appreciate the most. All the things I have seen and witnessed. All the people I have met.
The heavy side?
It's one of the things I dislike the most all the things I have seen and witnessed. All the people I have met.
But you know the great thing?
Just because some of the things I've seen and some of the people I have met aren't my cup of tea, doesn't mean they aren't other people's.
I'm not everyone's cup of tea, not even close, but that's just ok too.
It's free choice and all that.

@4thngoal is completely tin hat full of shit. I’m there almost every weekend. Not even worth arguing with mental defectives.

Talk to me about Salida. Love Colorado but have never been to that area

Old mining town which has made a great comeback after the artists moved there. I haven't been there in several years, but there are neat b&bs, restaurants, and an art scene. The Arkansas River runs through town, and there is a paddling course on some small rapids there in the middle of town. It sits in the valley between the massive collegiate peaks to the west and the Sangre de Cristo range to the west. It's in what is called the "banana belt" because they sort of have a micro climate there that stays warmer than some other areas in winter. It's close to Monarch, too. If you love mountain biking it is great, or hiking, or anything outdoors :)

Thank you. All the good ones were.
From Moses to Noah to Jesus, to DaVinci, to Van Gogh, to Einstein and Tesla.
I'm in pretty good company.

Sorry if my opinion and the links I provided don't agree with your view. But your a big boy. If not?? Cry me a river, build a boat and get over it.
I don't think you are mentally defective for your opinion.
It all comes down to this. I had seen my uncle with absolutely beautiful women and I had seen him with not so beautiful women.
As a preteen I asked him why that was.
He said "fat women need loving too".
That was his view. His opinion. His choice.
That's fine by me. I didn't argue.

So we should rob a bank in Durant and head for the county line! Boss Hogg & Roscoe will never catch us!

Typically the wife and I go to Amelia island in FL. Last year we went to A Georgia Bulldog game in Athens and then on to Nashville.
Since I'm getting rotator cuff surgery this Wednesday it appears no matter what or where we go this year she's driving and I'll be limited to one arm fun only!

If they mess up your nerves a little bit you might be able to give yourself strangers everyday without having to lay on your arm first. This sounds awesome. Good luck!

Lake Okoboji's water content just isn't something I am gonna die on a hill about, but I can tell you that it's always seemed fine to me. The weeds have never bothered me, the water always seems clearer than most. Boating is great. I have friends that fish there every day. The shops are nice. Good food easy to find. I can walk almost anywhere. The night life is top shelf. I only kind of agreed with the "Go on vacation, leave on probation" aspect when 4th&G said it was because there IS a heavy police force in the area. They will arrest your ass for anything. Which IMO, is a good thing. I like to feel safe. They don't put up with shit. That said, it's kind of shit show sometimes. People are drunk. The townies are a little strange, there's some dirty parts. But I think that can said about just about anywhere. Boji has been a place I've been going to regularly for 30 years and likely will be a place I go to routinely for the next 20-30 too.

Wife and I did our first cruise in February (Cozumel, Costa Maya), then a week in Georgia & South Carolina last month. The real vacation began this morning when she flew out to Seattle to help our duaghter get settled in her new digs. No WAY I am spending a week painting and carrying boxes that the movers should have carried/deposited in the first place!

Heading to Chicago & Evanston to catch the Hawks in October. Have a week in July/August around my birthday. And. I. Am. Not. Going. Anywhere. That. Week! Too much stuff to do around the house!
