OT: Vacation

The Dells, then possibly a drive to Vegas via Colorado and AZ. No kids (ours are grown).
Catch the music scene in the four corners.

Colorado- White water rafting in Colorado springs, spend a couple days in Breckenridge, couple days in Estes Park and finishing up in Boulder.
Manitou Springs used to be kind of a cool place to visit. But I think the live music scene has died down. Absolutely huge arcade. Lot's of shops and restaurants. Also lot's of homeless and Street musicians ( my last visit after they legalized pot).
If you are wanting to ski, you could ski in Vail and stay in Buena Vista, just on the other side of the collegiate mountains. I think that place is a hidden gem. It's not pretentious, it's got everything you need. It's the right mix of locals and travelers.
They also have some great rafting right there!!!

We aren't looking to ski but I think we are going to hit up Pike's Peak and it looks like Manitou Springs would be on the way so thanks for the recommendation!

You basically get on the train or start your ascend up PP in Manitou Springs. It's a quaint little town basically in Colorado Springs. It does have a lot of great food, bars, music etc - but there is also a little seediness in that area (homeless people, the attractions kind of remind you of a fairway full of carny like people selling you tickets to win a glass Motley Crue mirror, funnel cakes, etc). It's worth checking out.

I don't know how you could possibly spend a week on that. I assume you've already seen a fair amount of things, so maybe this is stuff like "Iowa's Largest Frying Pan" in Brandon, Iowa.

Don't miss the World's largest wood coin on Dubuque St. going into Iowa City!

Don't bother getting a Gunderburger. I just read that place recently stopped serving food.

Man this thread is depressing me. I’m not going anywhere unfortunately. Hope to make the third Black Hills trip next year with my son.

Sure.
Cave of the winds is right there, but meh. It's ok, but it's not all that much, unless you are really into geology.
I never tried the cog railway, but you might want to look into that.
Of course you should check out garden of the gods and even the surrounding neighborhoods.
Up by Boulder? Definitely the Red Rocks is a must. Garrison is a awesome town!!
There is a back way from the woodland Park area to near highlands ranch (goes through Deckers) that is an absolutely beautiful drive. It takes awhile, so not if in a hurry, but worth it.
Of course be careful, of the hills and the people.
Safe travels and enjoy.

Oh wait.... I'm going to Clinton.
My nipples explode with delight!

Clinton and nipples should not be used in the same paragraph.

I think the cog railway is worth it. I nice little 2-2.5 hrs time period. It takes about 45 min to go up and another 45 min down. Nice way to see the mountain and top with a gift shop at the top you visit for a while.

And speaking of the Black Hills, if any of you haven't been there before, it's a great place to vacation. Definitely one of the cheapest, especially with what you can do for your money.

My kid and I camped at Sylvan Lake for a week and stayed busy the whole time, and I spent just under $500 including, camping, gas there and back, food, and funsies. If anyone is limited on vaca with kids because of budgetary reasons hit me up and I can give you a big rundown.

Did Black Hills last year. Great place, lot to do near there. Camping, sight seeing. Great family outings.

After we start 5th wheeling it, the black hills is our first stop.
I tend to like to really explore an area I am visiting.

Last thing for those who are or will sometime visit Colorado, the royal gorge bridge, park and whole surrounding area is a must. For me, it came in second in Colorado, only to Garrison and the Red Rocks.
A tight second because as I said Buena Vista and the colligate mountain area is about perfect speed for me to have an extended stay.
The royal gorge is touristy. Worth it, but lot's of dip shits to deal with. Same as Manitou Springs.
