OT: UCLA Fans Still Unhappy w/ Alford Even Before Season Starts

I get the disappointment in the hire, but holy cow, that fan base, the media, everyone is all over him from the get go. Pretty rough deal.

i spoke with a parent of a h.s. basketball player who was recruited by both alford and ferentz, and ultimately signed with iowa football. they met with alford in the recruiting process for basketball (and i knew how this story was going to end prior to him telling me said story) and he said that the whole meeting all that alford could talk about was himself. somethings appeared not to have changed.

This upcoming basketball season might end up being my 2nd favorite.....to only the '86-'87 season for 3 reasons. 1) The Hawks finally get back to the dance and have a team capable of making some noise 2) I get to see Alford perform a failure of epic proportions at a big time national basketball school and 3) I get to see Seth Davis and Andy Katz look like even bigger d0uchers trying to continue to defend him.

Man, this year is going to be fun!!

I feel badly for Alford's son. The pressure to excel for him are going to be twice what they would be for a normal recruit. I hear the kid is talented, but the Bruin fans will put his every move under a microscope.

It may take him a year to surround himself with enough AAU miscreants to grease the right palms of coaches, but he will get it done. I also look for him to get nailed for NCAA violations in the next 2-3 years, as he will stop at nothing to keep the UCLA job. Missouri State, Iowa, New Mexico were just bumps on the road to the hallowed halls of UCLA.

It is obvious to me that UCLA fans will dislike Alford more than Iowa fans if he doesn't win right away.

Their fans used to be rabid like Dukes toward the opposing team. UCLA's fans will be vicious toward Alford.....

The treacherous punk. I have a feeling that the UCLA fans will carry more hatred in their hearts than the Lobos....

Well, UCLA fans won't be happy to know that Alford just lost a very important pg recruit to Illinois. Kid was said to be leaning toward UCLA until he met with John Groce. Not many coaches are going to lose a personality battle against Alford.

i really think the big spotlight out there will greatly expose him for what he is. he would have done well for himself to stay at New Mexico and be a big fish in a small pond.

Well, whatever he gets he brought on himself. If he didn't want that attention he could have went to school somewhere else. I have no idea how good he is, but that article made it sound like he didn't have an offer from any other major programs.

C'mon, that isn't fair! He had an offer from New Mexico, and they were a #3 seed and won many many conference (tournament) championships!

That is some great reading. I hate myself a little for how much I enjoyed it. Especially the Alford supporter (who claims they know him personally) trying to defend him but unable to give example of his great character, and how ethical he is.
