One of Top Recruiting Classes in Kirk Ferentz Era

I expect that Rugumba and Hankins will be starters, but one of the freshman DB's will probably grab the spot for the 5th DB formations. Wouldn't be suprised to see Craddieth starting at one of the saftey spots either.
Your guess is as good as mine. They'd have the leg up having played some. But I wouldn't say they are shoe ins for it. Rugumba had a rough year overall I thought. But Jackson wasn't expected to be a lockdown 1st round pick prior to last year either. I trust Parker will put out a solid group

Doyle is starting come August. Take it to the bank.
He's in as good a position to do it. Being able to enroll last month and his Dad being who he is. He might not have been born on 3rd base but if not he's between 2nd and 3rd with a heck of a head start on everyone else.

I'm told that Rugumba is the leader of the DB group. He had his struggles last year, but 1 summer as the #1 under Parker's focus should have him up to all conference standards. DB's is pretty much now a group that I have implicit faith will be up to par year in and year out under Parker.

Giving more conjecture to defend your conjecture.

Brian, is that you?

And yours is not conjecture LOL! Dude had one season and you expected perfection all the while having basically freshman OTs and a new QB and very questionable WRs. Get REAL!

If you pay attention to real football coaches like Parker and others and still say Brian Ferentz is on the same level then we don’t have anything to talk about.

And expecting perfection is a long, long ways from the offensive crap show that Ferentz & Son Inc. called this year. I’m hardly the only one who sees the same thing.

I wish you could just admit that you’d still give him your heart and soul even if he had 20 shit years let alone 1. You homer fans and donors kill the program by supporting Barta and his crew. If all you want is your graduation rates and a bunch of gee golly shucks go find an NAIA program somewhere and buy their season tickets.

I know A.J. played last year and the last couple years Kirk has played some of the younger guys I just hope that all of THE BEST Players are on the field combined. I know KF is usually loyal to the seniors and next guy in line.

Perfection? Did you see how bad our offense was? Did you see the final offensive rankings? Brian has no business being our OC, none.

Truth in the middle ground here. Our offense was garbage for most of the year. When we tried deviating from tendency, sometimes it worked great (ISU, ILL, OSU), and sometimes it didn't or we turtled (Wiscy, Purdue, Mich St). This was muddled by our inexperience on the O-Line due to injuries with a first year coordinator teaching freshman tackles on the fly. Another year of experience and a full off-season evaluate performance then to coach the coaches will improve things. By how much is the question. Brian has business being an offensive coodinator as I think with GDGD, we would have had a losing record and potentially been blown out by ISU. Hopefully I'll have hard data to back that up by the end of next season, if not, I'll be in your camp decrying nepotism.

Complain about Barta all you want, and rightfully so; but I can almost guarantee you his replacement will be even worse when that time comes.

So we should just sit in a dirty diaper and accept it?

Wisconsin would have never gotten Alvarez if they took that viewpoint.

I clearly said you are right to complain. But knowing what I know about the culture of the school, I seriously doubt the next person will be someone to celebrate.

I'm not ready to throw Brian on the scrap heap. I saw some decent things out of the Iowa offense last fall to say it's not hopeless. However, I do expect to see big strides this fall on offense, not a hope, an expectation. As fans, we're entitled to that.

I agree with you on this. One year as offensive coordinator is not enough to fully judge his performance. And as you said there were some really good positives along with some really bad, same old same old negatives that we saw from the offense last year. Obviously there were not enough positives but enough to allow you to conclude that perhaps BF just needs to get a bit more acclimated with his position to be able to "punch through" with offense next year.

I am willing to see what happens. Hell, we have no choice on the matter.

Every season in Iowa football since the 1930's says YOU should probably take your expectations elsewhere and find a new team. We cheer for the Hawks. Because we accept a top 25 all time result is not our problem. The fact that you think God ordained a piece of frozen dirt in the middle of this continent as rightful national championship contenders every year is your issue to deal with. According to your logic, you are a fool to still be here rooting as well. Welcome!

Interesting trends for these two coaches. Ferentz has been steady.

Hayden Fry's last 11 seasons
10 wins × 1
9 wins x 1
8 wins x 1
7 wins x 1
6 wins or fewer x 7

3 times we won 8 games or more in Fry's last 11 yrs.

Kirk Ferentz the last 11 years
12 wins × 1
11 wins x 1
9 wins x 1
8 wins x 4
6 wins or fewer x 2

7 times we have won 8 games or more under Ferentz in the last 11 years.

Same homer fan shit out of you as last year. You need a fresh gig...

...yawn.

Wisconsin was 9-36 the four years before Alvarez was hired. There's a slight difference in circumstances in that situation. Their AD should have been fired if he DIDN'T change coaches.

I don't care if you hate Ferentz. Just come up with a little better rationale for firing him.

Rivals four-star safety Dallas Craddieth out of St. Louis chose Iowa over several other stellar offers. So did Indianapolis defensive backs Julius Brents and D.J. Johnson. These guys turned away the likes of Michigan State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and LSU.

They are emblematic of the type of player Iowa consistently nabbed during this cycle.

That was why McDonald’s Monday commitment felt like the Hawkeye coaching staff punctuated this class with an exclamation point. They put a lot of effort into landing McDonald, and they got their man.

Also in this class: The Hawkeyes got their quarterback (four-star Spencer Petras, who is already on campus); they got instant help on the defensive line (led by Alabama-offered junior-college transfer Daviyon Nixon); and they got prospective playmakers (Indiana player of the year Tyrone Tracy among them).

“I will say this: This class, top to bottom, is one of their more heavily recruited classes," Trieu says, "if you looked at who Iowa had to beat on each of these guys."
where are the receivers? One position we can't recruit for some reason

Speaking of fresh gig's, you need one in the worst possible way. It was cool 3 years ago to bitch endlessly about KF after the '14 season. Heck I was right there with you. Freshen up your act though, as 3 years later we have 28 wins in those 3 years which is tied for 12 best of all P5 teams.
