official espn3 rant thread

It's frickin 2014. How the hell is it harder to watch games now than it was 30 years ago? If espn has tv rights to a game and chose not to put it on tv, shouldn't someone else be able to air it? This is worse than when the Big 10 Network started and I couldn't watch most of the games because since Todd Lickliter isn't the coach I actually care. If you don't have an acceptable provider they should at least give you the option to pay for specific games you want to watch. F U espn, F U espn3, and F U directv!

Just looked at the schedule as it relates to TV coverage and it looks like I won't be able to watch most of the non-conference games unless I pay extra for streaming (which may or may not work, based on past experience). Depressing.

Although it wasn't free, I kinda miss the ESPN Full Court days. At least I got to watch almost every single game and didn't have to hug a laptop all night long to do so.

DirctTV not offering ESPN3 is b*llshit. The only positive is that BTN2GO will be streaming the games the following day. So while you can't watch it live, you can watch it the next day.

I'm not sure what ESPN pays for these games, but it must be enough that overall Iowa is making a ton more money this way, than selling each game for pennies on the dollar to local networks. What I don't get though, is why ESPN doesn't then just turn around and sell it back to a local network to make some money back. I don't know how it all works, and it must not be as easy as what I think, otherwise it would be happening.

I hope the next TV contract, whether it be with FOX sports or ESPN/ABC or some combination of the two, can allow all basketball games to be televised. Hell, the Pac-12 has every football and men's basketball televised on at least the Pac-12 Network, why can't the richest conference in the NCAA do it?

Yeah this digital tv transition stuff is getting frustrating. People are paying extra to have BTN on their tv package, as well as hefty fees for espn for part of the bundle. Yet BTN and ESPN are throwing local followed sports on their streaming services. I really wonder if it's just a concept to help grow their online streaming service.

These problems really sprang up with Bigten and the deal with their new network, they're probably the first to blame. The conference and the network need to get together to do something about this like Pac12 did.

Can't you use the WatchESPN app on a Roku to watch it? I've picked up plenty of ESPN3 games on there in the past.

I'm tempted to go ahead and pay for the damned streaming services like BTN2GO but I hear too many horror stories about people subscribing then having the stupid thing not work.

I grew up watching basketball games (Pro and College) all over USA until I moved here. First Mediasum.com then Dishsoap.Network Then DirecTV. It has gotten worse and worse and worse. I just can't sit back and relax and enjoy a game of basketball! It's becoming like a snakeoil salesman who wouldn't give you medicine.,because you didn't have enough to pay him. They have become like a fat camel who have hard time fitting themselves thru the eye of needle. I'm at this point of my life when i realized there's more to life then cable tv.

At least last year I could pay money to watch them. This year there's not even the option to go to a bar and watch them.
I watch about any bb or fb game I want free on wiziwig on my laptop . It's not the best video but at least I can watch

For some reason I thought it was going to be on btn2go like the exhibition game was. Not sure why DirecTV doesn't allow for ESPN3. Guess I'm going to have to bribe some comcast dork for their login info

If you can't get ESPN3, if you have a Roku device, one of the channels is WATCH ESPN, they have an ESPN3 catagory, below it is a Brouse By Sport, go to NCAA BASKETBALL, then Live and Upcoming, click on that and scroll a long way to the Iowa-Hampton game listed at 9:30 EST.....

The Roku Stick is a nifty device, the Streaming Stick in a bargain at $50, HD, Dolby DIgital, WiFi. Hundreds of channels, most for free. They do have Netflix, Hbogo, Amazon, Spotify, and many others.....

Jack you still have to have a tv providors subscription that has a deal with espn to access this. It ask for your provider login credentials. Direct tv is a no, not sure on mediacom. For the espns originally agreement ypu just needed a cable internet provider that agreed on a deal with espn for streaming, but they have a nee agreement starting this year.

Nice!

Ok, there is much confusion here. This is how it works.

Watch ESPN

-You need a cable and a cable package that get ESPN to have access.
-You fire up the app on the computer, Apple TV, Roku box, Xbox, Playstation etc.
-You put in your cable/satellite provider account login email and password
-Now you can stream the games on ESPN 3 over the Watch ESPN app
-The only cable provider that doesn't allow this is DirecTV. Why? I Don't know, they probably won't pay ESPN for this service for its customers. That is the HUGE problem with ESPN 3 is that DirecTV customers can't get this

BTN2GO

-You need a cable and a cable package that gets the BTN to have access.
-You fire up the app on the computer, ipad, etc.
-You put in your cable/satellite provider account login email and password
-Now you can stream the games on BTN2GO app on your computer, phone, or ipad. Then airplay your ipad or device to your apple TV or streaming box if you can.

The key to both of these is having a cable/satellite provider, and have a program package that includes these stations. As I said the huge problem with ESPN3 is that the biggest provider (DirecTV) doesn't let you carry ESPN3. There are some streaming sites that I'm sure you will be able to watch online though. If someone would start a link with a site that carries it that would be great, as I don't know anything about those sites.

Dang maybe my chinese family can help me built a dish and point to China and get free BTN and free Internet

Maybe Randy Winegard would help me built a dish hahahaha
