official espn3 rant thread

I have Dish Network. Best way to watch to log into the BTN2Go like I did for the exhibition game? Will they have it live then on there?

Log into Watch ESPN app or on your computer, Ipad, Apple TV, xbox, or playstation if you have dish network. That would be the best way with dish.

ESPN3 is not a TV channel, it's a online streaming service. Direct TV isn't to blame on this, it's who they have for a internet provider. Century Link doesn't offer ESPN3 streaming but Medicacom internet does. I have Direct TV but use Mediacom's cable internet and can stream ESPN3 games through my ESPN ap on my Xbox360. I feel everyone's pain but unless you have Mediacom internet in Iowa, you can't stream it for free.

The real problem here is the Big Ten Network and how crappy they are when it comes to basketball. They don't have overflow channels which is garbage. The network brings in enough money to be able to afford to send crews out to games.

F U Century Link.

mediacom makes you signup for some sort of email....but when you register for a new one it says you already have an account. Anyone else have this problem? I have never signed up for one but my mediacom acct# is already being used. Their support is pretty terrible too.

I always have trouble signing into my Mediacom account. The password is never recognized and I have to reset it and maybe access it once and never again, having to change it once more.....

Roku provides a lot of different options but where am I going to find a kid t show me these technical things.

If you have Roku, Doc, it is not too difficult to add ESPN to your channel list.

Go to the main page on Roku and go down to Channel Store, click on it and go to Sports, the first one that shows up is WATCH ESPN. It says it has a free app to watch live games and studio shows. You might need ESPN on your cable or dish provider. I can't remember if I had to give my cable provider or not.....

They might give you a code to enter on the ESPN site, enter the code and you should be OK. Just might have ESPN service on cable or satellite, other than Direct TV......

If you get the app you are good to go.Go to MY Channels and click on WATCH ESPN and go down to ESPN3, go down to Browse BY Sport and pick NCAA basketball. click on it and scroll to the right for a while until the Iowa-Hampton game shows up, listed at 9:30 EST, 8:30 our time. It says it is available but I have never tried to get an ESPN3 game on Roku before. So we shall see.....

Hope this helps.....

It is a disgrace that many of the Iowa preconference game are not available. First Row sometimes has the games. I haven't used Wizawig......

You're mostly correct. However, if you have Roku and DirecTV and try to set up the WatchESPN app using your DirecTV account, it won't let you because DirecTV doesn't support it. You have to set it up using your ISP.

I'm all set, but it took a bunch of calls and waiting for my internet company on the phone. I have DTV but Cox Communications internet. It says right on Cox's site that ESPN3 comes free for internet subscribers. Every time I clicked on a game or something on ESPN3, I would get a User Not Authorized Error message. So I called Cox, bitched, and they told me the only way I would get ESPN3 is to order their cable too, even though it is listed in part of the features that I was already paying for. Finally, they gave me the number for ESPN3 to call, cause I said, "look, ESPN3 is a for the internet, and the internet only, it is not for TV, so I shouldn't need your TV package to watch ESPN3 on your internet and it even says that's the case on your site and in my package." I called ESPN3 - got right through - told them what was up, and it was resolved in like 3 minutes.... so, yay basketball.

Cable companies are the epitome of bad service

888-549-ESPN - they were WAYYY more helpful with helping guide me than my cable company. I guess since I didn't have the cable service, I was marked as unauthorized, even though I should have been since I pay for the internet. Took em 2 minutes and I was watching soccer!

So if you call espn and complain, they make you watch soccer?

lol, that's all that was on to test if it was working...

you still don't get ESPN, or 2 or the U or SEC stuff they've got on ESPN3 - only games that say ESPN3. At least with my internet sub...

Ha at least when I tested to see if mine was working I got to watch woman's volleyball.

All I know is in 1979 I could watch every Iowa BB game on TV. I wonder if other schools have the same issue ? Seems like something that could be fixed if the fans made enough noise about it.

I doubt it. The TV money from ESPN and BTN is huge. The conference cares about those TV deals a lot more than they care about the small percentage of fans who don't subscribe to cable and can no longer get their teams' games via antenna. It sucks, but it's the reality.

What really sux is when you do subscribe to cable but they still won't give you the games unless you now subscribe to their crappy streaming service. Well screw that. Up yours ESPN!

One difference was that in 1979 (IIRC) Iowa (and every other Big 10 team) only played games on Thursday nights and Saturdays. No games on any other day. Now, because of TV revenues, we can play games on any day of the week.

This is false Quad. When espn3 first arrived, yes you were right. But now it requires a tv subscription NOT a internet, it is on direct tv and espn, and obviously BTN for selling the rights of the game in the first place. When you set it up now, for instance, you can't use Verizon as a network option, you have to use Verizon Fios, their tv package service. Makes no sense, since this is a web streaming product... but yea..

Wiziwig does't appear to be streaming the game. What other free services are out there?

I tried posting this earlier, but it didn't make it. Probably because I posted a link.

Any game that is televised can be watched on First Row Sports. You'll have to Google it. Plus, there are popups and ads you'll have to close.
