official espn3 rant thread

For those who can't access ESPN3... try this: http://www.wiziwig.tv/broadcast.php?matchid=292086&part=sports

Every single time I've needed to stream something it has worked. The quality isn't great, but as long as you have a decent internet speed it works. Heck I watched the Iowa vs Pitt football game on there at a bar in Costa Rica. The bar owner streamed it on their big screens for me since it was a 10 am kickoff (in Costa Rica). No one else was there.

*Just make sure when you pick a stream you find all the little x's to close the ads. Don't download any of the crap that pops up. You should be able to close the ads and watch the game.

If you can't get ESPN3, if you have a Roku device, one of the channels is WATCH ESPN, they have an ESPN3 catagory, below it is a Brouse By Sport, go to NCAA BASKETBALL, then Live and Upcoming, click on that and scroll a long way to the Iowa-Hampton game listed at 9:30 EST.....

The Roku Stick is a nifty device, the Streaming Stick in a bargain at $50, HD, Dolby DIgital, WiFi. Hundreds of channels, most for free. They do have Netflix, Hbogo, Amazon, Spotify, and many others.....

Roku provides a lot of different options but where am I going to find a kid t show me these technical things.

30 years ago I paid $7.95 for cable and I got every Hawkeye game. What I didn't get was the McNeese State or Bethune-Cookman games. Thank goodness I can pay 10 times more and get those games now.

Really? Gonna complain about cost now vs 30 years ago? Kind of dating yourself Doc., and you sound like a grumpy old geezer who probably walked to school uphill both ways. ;)

There are Tickets for monday's game on stubhub for like $10. I'm going, come on over and join me guys so we don't have to worry about this tv bull.

I had to dump DirecTV when we moved and the landloard didn't want a dish on the roof. The polemount in the yard couldn't get a signal so they said that I broke the contract and are charging me $20 for the remainder of my contract. They were supposed to send me boxes to return all equipment but they never did, instead they have been billing me and ruing my credit.

I'm tempted to go ahead and pay for the damned streaming services like BTN2GO but I hear too many horror stories about people subscribing then having the stupid thing not work.

This happened to me the first time I tried it, and I was not alone. Nor was this the first time I'd seen it happen. I decided to give it a shot despite seeing others have these issues before... My mistake.

Never again.

Wiziwig does't appear to be streaming the game. What other free services are out there?

A lot of times the streams don't show up until within an hour of tipoff. I'd be very surprised if it's not on there. There is already a link for it that says there will be two different streams.

My mistake is always forgetting to cancel when the non conference is over.

It's frickin 2014. How the hell is it harder to watch games now than it was 30 years ago? If espn has tv rights to a game and chose not to put it on tv, shouldn't someone else be able to air it? This is worse than when the Big 10 Network started and I couldn't watch most of the games because since Todd Lickliter isn't the coach I actually care. If you don't have an acceptable provider they should at least give you the option to pay for specific games you want to watch. F U espn, F U espn3, and F U directv!

All I know is in 1979 I could watch every Iowa BB game on TV. I wonder if other schools have the same issue ? Seems like something that could be fixed if the fans made enough noise about it.

If you have DirecTV and Roku you can watch the game, here is how:

You don't need to use your cable service provider (DirecTV), you can instead use your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Download the WatchESPN app on Roku, and set it up through your ISP. Here is a list of ISP's that work, among them are Mediacom, Verizon (there are many).

mediacom makes you signup for some sort of email....but when you register for a new one it says you already have an account. Anyone else have this problem? I have never signed up for one but my mediacom acct# is already being used. Their support is pretty terrible too.

Are there any DM area bars that will stream it into their TVs? That is what local bars had to do for cyclone.tv in past years.

Yes, I believe so. I actually have ATT U-verse and don't have this problem. But my dad was able to get the WatchESPN app on Roku with Charter internet. And Mediacom is approved too so it should work. I would try it right away when you get home. Just make sure you go through your ISP.

Edit: I want to add... if my Dad can do it, anyone can. I know it works, just don't know the step by step directions, but it doesn't sound too difficult.

Moe, this happened to me. Your email address is preset by mediacom, yet they don't tell you that. It your last name then a period then your first name @ mediacombb.net. as for the password, you have to call to get it. They reset my to mediamcom11 or something like that.

For the rest of you, if you know anyone with mediacom you can use their sign on, my brother in law and i share our different providers log on info so I get his espn access, he gets my btn2go access.
