I was just going through the letters related to the crash on the UofI digital library and I noticed that in one letter to his father it’s mentioned he made it 150 feet off the deck and it came right down and perfectly landed on the water, where he crawled on to the wing with life vest on and swam aways from the plane so to not get sucked down with it and that he may have been taken down by a shark, but there isn’t much mention of sharks other that one letter. In other letters and the ships log it says it was 4 miles of the bow and the oil leak wasn’t mentioned until later. Just find that kind of strange.
