12:43pm: Dempster doesn’t want to be traded to the Braves, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. Instead, the right-hander hopes to be dealt to the Dodgers. While the Dodgers had interest in Dempster and were considered by some to be the favorites to acquire him, they didn’t reach an agreement with the Cubs. Chicago would lose leverage with the Dodgers if Dempster rejects a trade to the Braves, his second choice.
This was per mlbtraderumors.com. Apparently the way this was handled was not appreciated by dempster. I hope this doesn't hurt the cubs chances of resigning him during the off-season. Also this really takes the return out of what the cubs could get since Demp is limiting to one team. The dodgers have all the leverage.
The cubs won't give up Demp for nothing so is it possible that if the Dodgers don't meet the cubs asking price and Garza is injured that nobody on the cub's team gets traded? That would be a black eye for Theo/Hoyer this year. This is the year to make trades and they actually have some talent.
However now the dodgers are in on Garza and Demp and likely only taking one. Who takes the other? Do the cubs extend Garza. This is craziness that is the trade deadline.
