**OFFICIAL CUBS REGULAR SEASON THREAD**

Not a bad trade for the Braves. Get a decent pitcher who could solidify the rotation a little bit. Only giving up Delgado who one of you mentioned was at the highest a #3 guy isn't too bad either. We have enough pitching depth that we could afford to give him for Dempster for the rest of this year.

It's also been said that the Braves think they have a good chance to sign Dempster to an extension as well. We'll see, I think he goes back to Chi though.

I agree, I think both sides win with this trade. Apparently everyone is just waiting for Dempster to waive his no trade clause.

Twitter / RyanDempsterFDN: THERE IS NO TRADE dont kno ...

"THERE IS NO TRADE dont know where this info came from!"

"I found out about it when I came off the field after early (batting practice)," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "Somebody said they saw it on the website. So I got on the website and saw it and called the higher ups to make sure. And they were like 'No, nothing is happening. I don't know where that came from.' That's where we are with that."

I think the worst part of the Demp deal possibly not happening is that it forced some other deals to happen, like the Tigers for example. I'm hoping that the cubs can still get a good deal for Garza. Hopefully the dodgers deal comes through.

I wonder if the Rangers might get involved in the search for starting pitching? That could maybe drive the market up slightly, especially considering their deep farm. They put Colby Lewis on the DL today, and he'll be out for the year, couple that with the A's recent surge and the Angels success with Trout this year, and I bet Texas is sweating.

Maholm back to the Buvs?

That would be funny if the Pirates had to give up prospects to get Maholm back. The Pirates do have a really good farm system.

Almora hit a home run in his first game, Soler hit one in his 2nd. The Cubs are finally getting talent in the minors. In a couple of years it should start paying off.

Listening to the Score..Sounds like Dempster may be holding up the trade..Why,is all speculation. But it was one of the teams on his list he agreed to be traded to.

Here's some speculation ... not sure if being blindsided is a good enough reason, but maybe...

Ryan Dempster Trade Rumors: Cubs SP Felt 'Blindsided' By Leaked Trade Proposal, According To Report - SB Nation Chicago
OK, I get the fact that Dempster can veto any deal. But if this is the reason, then I'm very unhappy with him. He was ok with going there and he's unhappy he wasn't the first to hear it? He gets to play for a contender the rest of the year and play for something. He also helps his current team get a decent prospect that can help them down the road. If he wants to come back, he could. Doesn't make sense.

There is a right & wrong way to handle traded players (esp. veteran players).

The wrong way to do it is to have the deal leaked to the media before it is finalized & approved by all parties.

12:43pm: Dempster doesn’t want to be traded to the Braves, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. Instead, the right-hander hopes to be dealt to the Dodgers. While the Dodgers had interest in Dempster and were considered by some to be the favorites to acquire him, they didn’t reach an agreement with the Cubs. Chicago would lose leverage with the Dodgers if Dempster rejects a trade to the Braves, his second choice.

This was per mlbtraderumors.com. Apparently the way this was handled was not appreciated by dempster. I hope this doesn't hurt the cubs chances of resigning him during the off-season. Also this really takes the return out of what the cubs could get since Demp is limiting to one team. The dodgers have all the leverage.

The cubs won't give up Demp for nothing so is it possible that if the Dodgers don't meet the cubs asking price and Garza is injured that nobody on the cub's team gets traded? That would be a black eye for Theo/Hoyer this year. This is the year to make trades and they actually have some talent.

However now the dodgers are in on Garza and Demp and likely only taking one. Who takes the other? Do the cubs extend Garza. This is craziness that is the trade deadline.

Still a lot of teams that need pitching help. I'm not worried...yet.
