September has been awful so far. 4-6 and potentially playing themselves out of the wildcard. The schedule down the stretch isn't doing them any favors either with 2 series against the cardinals coming up. At least they'll be at home for 10 days after this afternoon's game. That road record has been complete crap this year, just brutal.
 
We are so banged up right now. I'm afraid if they don't catch fire, it's going to be a dismal way to end the year. They need to find a way.

Maddon let Darvish go an extra inning.

That was huge. Our beleaguered pen had one less inning to cover. Darvish was dealing today! He probably deserved another inning but his spot came up and Zo drove in an insurance run so it worked out in the end.
 
Milwaukee now 28-9 in the month of September from 2018 through today.

They play the arch heads this weekend. Both of them can't win every game.

Both of them can't lose every game either.
 
Any team that catches fire at the right time can make a helluva run through the playoffs.
But first you’ve gotta take care of business and that means winning at least half your games on the road.
Possible with this team? yes.
Likely?? Who knows. Based on the reg season road % - not this year.
It comes down to this. The Cubbies have gotta wake up quick or they’ll be at home on the couch in October.
 
The Cubs are launching the balls out of the field today! Rizzo with a Grand Slam! Willson C. has hit 2 HRs also. Hoerner with a homer and Castellanos has a HR. Bombs away!

And then came the fifth inning...:)

When was the last time the Cubs scored seven runs in an inning without the benefit of a home run? And it almost never happened. Kris Bryant was ruled out on a ground ball that would have ended the inning. Bryant did end the inning...after he was ruled safe on review and the Cubs had nine consecutive men reach base. The Cubs batted around after two men were out!

Has there ever in recent memory been a better overturn of a Cubs replay?

Contreras had a great day with the bat, a very shaky one with the glove. He committed a foolish error in the first inning. He committed an even more costly one in the fifth, rushing a throw that didn't need to be rushed, having it sail down the first base line, and having two runs score.

A good throw would have been the third out. Instead it suddenly became 10-7 and the pirates had runners on second and third. Lester finally got a ground ball to short and even that was a close play.

Great offensive outburst for the Cubs but they have to fix this defense.
 
Just some info. Cubs set a franchise record for HRs in a single season. Also the organ player is retiring as soon as the season is over. Has played 2,679 consecutive games. Cubs did win 14-1.

Oh, well. Plunk back to back hitters and the next batter has two men on base when he hits a home run.

Hurdle has been starting crap all year. And Bote has been hit in the head at least twice. It's good to see Maples protecting his batters. We've already got one player in concussion protocol from a beaning. And we will gladly administer another butt whipping to Hurdle and the Pirates tomorrow same time same place.

I believe the Russell beaning was intentional. Milwaukee wasn't happy when Schwarber went hard into second base on Keston Huerra in the Wrigley Field series.

I like it he was sticking up for his players. Hurdle should be fined big time or suspended. Tired of our guys getting thrown at! P-Rats going to get another butt kicking tomorrow!
 
P-Rats pulled a clown move! Lol While Kemp was standing on 3rd. the P-Rat pitcher was making an appeal play to 3rd. and threw the ball over the 3rd. baseman's head! Kemp scores!
