another hot button issue tackled on HN. Interesting to see the different viewpoints.
A few thoughts:
1) don't care how long ago this was, once the proof was there he should have been kicked off the team, he can then take steps to transfer to another school or maybe even rejoin the team after treatment and/or punishment, but he shouldnt have the privilege of being a scholarship athlete after this came to light(whenever that was)
2) While she wasn't smart in slapping him, the "she started it" defense really doesn't fly. He may have immediately regretted his reaction, doesn't matter, he should be charged with assault, or more if she happens to hit her head wrong on the table, etc.... Doesn't really matter what words were said prior to her slapping him, the fact this was his response....c'mon.
I had my moments of "shaky moral compass" in college, and Lord knows I am glad camera phones didn't exist....but illegal is illegal, assault is assualt, and when you do the crime (and it's on video), you should be punished, and then, maybe, given an opportunity to redeem yourself.
Regardless, if Stoops, or any administration knew about this and basically did nothing....they should be held accountable. And yes, i'd feel the same if it were Iowa.
My immediate reaction to the video....if that's my daughter (1: i'd tell here she's an idiot for pushing/slapping anyone without thinking they could retaliate, don't be an idiot) (2: while I would like to take physical retribution on the coward punk who punched my daughter, not sure I could, but I would definitely want him punished, severely). No scholly, no football, criminal and civil charges....you can have your 2nd chance after a year or two, but sorry about dem pro prospects though....bruh.
