Look, bhalbur, I have no problem with this site refusing service to anyone that they deem is only there to instigate and not add to the conversation. My problem is, with no parameters set, mods have carte blanche to throw the ban hammer at anyone for any reason. I fear it will devolve in to banning someone with a differing opinion.

Yeah, like we do every day on this forum...or....no.
We have a track record of tolerance. If you're uncomfortable with what has been said on the topic, then HN Extra is not for you. That's cool. But you're a 1000 or so words into your opinion on the matter...I get it, you're skeptical. Seems like something that isn't for you.

I will ask my question again. Why not be heavy handed on trolling on the free site the way you will on the paid site?
What I'm hearing is...
"Many of you have expressed concerns about our business model, or lack thereof, regarding internet trolling. With this in mind, we have decided to change our business model to accommodate you but, you're going to have to pay for it."

So you're not going to be able to monitor the boards the paid site either? Why then did you even mention trolling in the sales pitch?

My guess is that there will be fewer people, thus easier to monitor, plus, (likely, first) the people signing up, if not explicitly, at least implicitly, agree to not troll, so it's sort of a self-monitored forum. While trolling defies precise definition, it's like pornography - you know it when you see (read) it.

I will monitor the premium board just like I monitor this one. I said it's not easy like some on here have implied.
And, it's much easier for a troll to keep coming back on the free board by just returning under a different screen name. It happens all the time. People are going to be a lot more reluctant to keep paying to troll on the premium board.

Well you fellas do a fine job but that's what you get the big bucks for. I imagine it can be a very time consuming job. Out sourcing doesn't always work. I remember when 2starstan had security clearance.

What I'm saying is, what Jon might see as a sarcastic comment, Rob may see it as trolling.
Calling out players has always been an understood no no on this site. I understand that perfectly and would like to know what the other no nos the mods are looking for before I plop down any money.

I've never worried about getting banned before but the way Jon has talked in this tread makes me wonder if my sarcastic posts could come off wrong. I wouldn't really care about the money if I got banned, but I would hate to get banned from the free boards too if I paid for a new set of rules that I couldn't live up to. Would that be the case? If you get banned from the premium board for a borderline post.l, would you be gone from the free board too?
