Nebby just fired their AD

The program is not where it needs to be and isn't anytime soon. Couple that with prodigious fan expectations with no patience. If I were Frost or any other coach, I'd run away from that situation as fast as I could.
I'm sure they'll get some sucker. If I were them I'd throw about $8 million at whoever it is. I think they have the resources.

You know what might have contributed to Nebraska being "elite" back in the day. This just dawned on me. There are certain teams that had an advantage back when Nebraska was doing well and winning championships.. Back in the day, only the good teams with good records were being televised on TV as national games. Often times, one couldn't even watch their favorite team unless they were doing well and on ABC. So, think of the recruits back then that would just salivate at the opportunity to play on national TV a lot. This is why Nebraska could recruit nationally and bring in top recruits to Lincoln. They were on TV quite a lot. This day and age, almost every game is on TV.

This is not the case anymore. Now every game is on TV so that playing field is leveled and took away a big advantage for teams like Nebraska. There is much more parity now in conferences and teams have their highs and lows. Add the fact that it is hard to recruit to the midwest and get players to Lincoln.

Jamie Pollard to Lincoln? Trev Alberts? I wonder if Nebraska imagined that when they FINALLY got their equal share of the B1G money that they'd be paying 3 head coaches at the same time with it?

As much as they want to "remember the good old days", maybe its time they bring back Tom Osborne as coach and A.D.

Iowa fans IMO - want Nebraska to hire Mullen, Kelly or Miles. Guys that have NO business coaching in Lincoln. If they go after Bohl or Frost I will take them seriously...anyone else, not as much.

Last Saturday I was flipping back and forth between the early games. Two of the games were Frank Solich and Ohio destroying Kansas and Nebraska struggling against N. Illinois. I told my son, "I don't think Nebraska's coach is going to make it to the Iowa game." Oops! Solich's record at Nebraska was 58-19 in 6 seasons. He was fired after a 9-3 record following the 2003 season. Oh, how times have changed!!!

OMG, Pollard to Nebraska would be unbelievable great. ISU fans would lose their minds, and Nebraska would be getting a AD with a Lil Brother inferiority complex. He would drive the final nail in the coffin of Nebraska football.

My understanding is that there was "off the field" issues with Solich that resulted in his termination...not his on field record....

I'm not sure about that...

Here are some quotes from the Nebraska AD at the time from the above article:

Nebraska's athletic director, Steve Pederson, said yesterday that he fired Coach Frank Solich after a 9-3 season and a six-year record of 58-19 because he felt the Cornhuskers were slipping into mediocrity.

He named the defensive coordinator, Bo Pelini, as the interim head coach for Nebraska's yet-to-be-determined bowl game and said he was opening a nationwide search.

''This is the best job in the country, and anyone who doesn't want to win the national championship shouldn't bother applying for this job,'' Pederson said at a news conference in Lincoln, Neb. ''I understand we aren't going to win the championship every year, but I believe we should be playing for or gaining on the championship on a consistent basis. I don't feel that currently we are playing for or gaining on the championship.''

Solich, who succeeded Tom Osborne after the 1997 season, led Nebraska to the 2001 national title game, but Pederson said he was concerned the program had lost ground in recruiting and was heading in the wrong direction.

''I refuse to let the program gravitate into mediocrity,'' Pederson said. ''We won't surrender the Big 12 to Oklahoma and Texas.''

Why did they fire him? Was he the genius who thought it was a good idea to bring Nebraska to a good conference? That's the decision that really cost them.

Those releases are typically always going to say that....unless it's something public like Baylor or Penn State. My understanding is that there was alcohol issues that played a large part in his dismissal...which also cropped up at Ohio U.....

Gary Barta? As in the new Nebby AD

That's a win-win (for Iowa, at least)

Picture it- on Barta's 1st day as Neb A.D., he calls Riley to his office.

( Riley is expecting the worst, but trying to stay calm, confident...)

Barta: "Coach, thanks for coming, I want to discuss your contract".

Riley thinks "Rats! I knew it! Remember to say 'thank you', and wish him well!"

Barta: "Your contract is only a 4-year deal. Most coaches have 10 years. Lets talk about an extension!"
