Multiple Coaches Leaving the Program

Give me a break. The real problem was both guards going down and having to start a fifth year walk on at guard next to a smallish first year starter at center. Add to this that KF left ARob in to get his brain scrambled at MSU and there went the offense.2011 and 2012 were just normal down years for the program under KF.
The ARob thing is spot-on, but you're really going to blame the implosion of a roster full of NFL caliber upperclassmen on a few interior line injuries? LO FREAKING L

Yes, as you know, I do not look at the 2010 as a bad a year as many others. 8 wins is a good season by Iowa standards and the fact they did that with what happened in the middle of their line, their backfield and having to start a true freshman at MLB is fairly impressive. Remember, they also graduated basically the entire offensive line from the prior year. Even with that, if Gettis and MacMillan do not go down, the Hawks win 10 games that year.
LOL, did you watch MacMillan play last year? He's not even half good.

Yeah or the fact we had a freshman and walkon senior linebacker starting, yeah no big deal there.

When he's healthy he can be good. He hasn't been healthy since early 2010 is the issue.

I think the lesson of the day is that we can't jump to conclusions based on social media messages from twitter especially. Just because an account under the name DJ Hernandez posts a background photo of Kinnick Stadium, it doesn't mean he has a job there, or what job the guy might have. Just because another account for a guy named Campbell is returning friendly tweets about "job well done" and "good luck" doesn't mean he is interviewing another job.

Roster full of NFL caliber players? Seriously? There were six guys that went to the NFL and only the guys from the DL have played beyond ST.

You had one really good unit, DL, backed up by a mash unit at LB (started a TF at MLB and Donatell at OLB, seriously) The three starters before the season evaporated and there was no ready depth behind them.

Teams just abused those young backers, but the D still played okay, considering.

The OL lost four out of five guys from the previous year.

No NFL talent at RB. Marginal NFL TE. A guy who got drafted at QB, but will end career this year having never thrown a pass in a regular season game. One receiver who isn't good enough to play arena ball and one who was a late draftee who spent most of the season on a practice squad and recorded no stats.

You probably didn't see him play before his injury and probably don't realize that 30% of the people with that injury never play competitive sports again. He was going to be the next great Iowa lineman.

But, but, but Iowa should win 10 games every year. They have talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People forget that Iowa's best teams don't even compare talent wise to the OSU, bama, etc of the NCAA. Not even close

This. He was absolute mauler as a freshman. Played with James Ferentz's mean streak, but with an extra 35 pounds.

Is there any reason to hope that he will return to form next year or is this a permanent disability?

so, just so i have this right...this thread isn't about coaches leaving?

i'll hang up and listen...

As CAAR said, the majority of guys who suffer that injury never play again. I don't think we'll see him reach that level again. Hope I'm wrong, but he's stressed credulity already by even getting on the field again. I can't realistically expect more than that.

Whatever dumb*ss. That team had an NFL QB, the two best receivers in the history of Iowa football, 2 outstanding RBs, 3 NFL OL (including a 1st round pick), an NFL TE, 3 NFL DL (including another 1st rounder), 2 draft picks at CB (assuming Hyde gets drafted), and 3 safeties that made NFL rosters, an NFL punter, and most likely an NFL placekicker as Meyer is rated very highly for next year. That was one of the most talented Iowa teams that has ever existed in your pathetic and worthless lifetime. In short, you are a complete and total idiot that knows less about football than a mildly reta*rded chimpanzee.

DJK was good, but he wasn't one of the two best in school history. Statistically, yes. But he's not even in the top 2 of the Ferentz era, IMO. Mo Brown is the most physically gifted wideout Ferentz has had. If he could have stayed healthy/out of trouble, he would have been holding most of the receiving records.

I love Irony.

Here goes. Iowa's line replaced Bulaga, Calloway, Dace, and Eubanks, four guys who had mega reps and 4 or 5 years in the program with Reiff, 1 year starter, Zus - new starter who only ended up as HM his senior year, JF, who was overpowered all year, and Gettis/MacMillan who gave way because of injury to a fifth year walkon with no meaningful previous reps.

That is a significant drop off at every position. Yes, including, at that point, Bulaga to Reiff. If the line could have stayed together, it could have been probably the fourth best line at Iowa under KF. 2002, 2003, 2009 being better. With the injuries, they fell back from that, which led to the late season slump. With that being said Zus has one NFL rep and JV has played in one game.

Seriously, you know some Iowa receivers have played pro ball right? McNutt and DJK's numbers had more to do with the game changing than their abilities.

NFL QB? Seriously? You have watched what has happened there, right?

The DB's played fine that year. The LBs got destroyed. I said as much earlier.

Seriously, with a healthy Tarp, Hunter, and Neilson, along with a healthy Mac or Gettis, Hampton, ARob, Coker, and without the Wegher situation, things would have been different.

Of course one could argue that there should have been another scholarship lineman ready to go or reasonable depth at LB and RB, but when you lose entire units and parts of others without ready replacements you will hurt.

Look back at the schedule. Gettis goes down after taking over for Mac and the wheels come off.

Nonetheless, given time off before the bowl game, they were able to make adjustments and coach guys up and pull out a victory against a team that was better than the ones to which they had lost late in the season.
