Multiple Coaches Leaving the Program

I would guess that Norm's game plans and halftime adjustments along with Norm and KFs player development covered up for a lot of shortcomings with the rest of the staff. Now that Norm is gone, I'm sure KF figured out he needed better recruiters as he couldn't rely on Norm anymore. I'm still convinced KF is great at player development but needs help in game plans and recruiting.

The best leaders realize their short comings and bring in people that can make the organization stronger. Let's hope that is what is going on here.

AND how many of the coaches mentioned are on D? Wow. If people do not see, you can not make them. Our D is fine, infact it is better than most expected (after changes). Now if we can get the bitchezs with the ball to do something, we will be fine. So again what side of the ball are we making changes on?
To me this lives and dies with GD. KF has made a choice and GD is either going to live up to it, or sink the ship.

I don't know if coaches are going, staying, whatever? So it is hard to speculate on what is happening.

The only thing that is absolutely certain is this is another example of KF's tone deaf approach to media.

Dude just lets things linger out there and it often happens right leading up to the signing date.

Would be interesting to compare the Internet fires that he has neglected to the recruiting rankings for each season.

And David Raih will not be around to take any of those positions...he is going to Texas Tech. I don't believe he will be pos assistant there, but he wants to go learn the Air Raid offense and will also act as a state of Texas recruiting liaison. He is building up a real good coaching repertoire having been around Skippy, Kirk and now with the offense Kingsbury will roll at Tech.

I think Raih wanted to stay but Kirk wasn't ready to pull any triggers on anything just yet. I think Kirk is talking to several people and he tends to be pretty methodical. Then again, if someone is a GA with you for three years, you probably know as much about them as anyone you could interview...so there is that jump.

Methodical, indeed.

Iowa shouldn't have to hire GA's to coach. They should be able to hire guys with experience across all areas, including recruiting.

Well your limited in the number of assistants you can have so there's that.

As to your larger point above about KF being media tone deaf - it isn't just KF - it is Barta too. We have by far the most inept sports marketing and sports information departments I've ever witnessed. Both are stuck in a time warp of the 1950's it seems.

Is it that hard...?

"Coaches X,Y, and Z have moved on from their current positions at Iowa. We thank them for their years of dedication to Hawkeye Football and wish them good luck and continued success in future endeavors."

"We've hired X,Y, and Z for the open positions in our football program. Each are excellent coaches with great pedigree. We welcome them to the Hawkeye Football family and look forward to working with them to achieve the success Iowa has been accustom to."

Done.

But what if it isnt going to happen?

Is the SID supposed to come out and refute every rumor that have a thread devoted to it on HawkeyeNation?

years from now we may look back and wonder what happened to our football program...wondering how such a good thing could have been destroyed so quickly. I believe the answer is Greg ******* Davis.

Word of Campbell's departure, however, has gone well past the rumor stages. Early this month recruit Damond Powell indicated he was told Erik Campbell would no longer be Iowa’s receivers coach. Around that time Jon posted information strongly suggesting that Campbell’s North Liberty home was for sale. Days later Campbell responded to well wishes on Twitter via his personal account. CoachingSearch.com also reported he interviewed for the receivers job at Missouri.

Meanwhile, Rivals reported Monday night that Lester Erb is a candidate for the OC position at Syracuse.

Social media and the interwebz are way out in front on this, and Iowa's sports information staff looks foolish for not saying anything about the changes that have taken place. Hardly the first time that department has been behind the curve on any news out of Fort Kinnick.

I would agree with what you say if it involved a head coach of the football or mens basketball team or maybe the coordinators on the football team, but position coaches?

I dont think there needs to be a statement at all. As long as recruits and players are kept in the loop that is good enough for me.

Happened way before Greg Davis. Fake punt, Wisconsin, 2010. A big chunk of the program died that day. Haven't recovered & Bucky has been to 3 Rose Bowls since that play. Line in the sand is that game.

I was there that day... prefer not to think about it. Felt like I got stabbed with a spoon. That was by far the worst coaching I've seen in person in my 26 years of living. I swear on my mother everyone in our section was screaming "Watch for the FAKE!!! Watch for the FAKE!!!!".... Just terrible coaching and execution. I don't care if they had two guys on the outside that were supposed to be "spying". They should have had a much more conservative punt safe formation in that situation. Now I that think about it, some of the decisions we've seen from KF just leave me shaking my head... no wonder I prefer not to think about it.

Yeah the program died so much that day the Hawks came back and stomped an undefeated and highly ranked MSU team the very next week in Kinnick.

If a part of the program died that year, it happened either in Evanston or Minneapolis.

The Wisconsin game started it all. That was the cause of the reported fight in teh lockerroom that caused Melvin Gordon to decomitt. That was a rough day and just escalated to the rest of the season. The MSU game was a complete emotion game as they responded. However, had they beat Wisky and then MSU they would have still been undefeated in the B10 and I think they take it to NW, OSU etc. That took a lot out of their sales.

And you would be dead ******* wrong.

Huh ... 10 pages, 136 comments, over 2 days ... all over an unconfirmed rumor with some suspected truth.

Either, "it's mid-January" or maybe this little issue of possibly losing 3 more assistant coaches is a little more important than many are willing to admit. ;)

Im not really buying that. Hawks still only had 1 B1G loss after the MSU game. If they won out they still could have won a shared conference title. They wouldnt have gone to the Rose Bowl because of their loss at Arizona but would have been a very strong candidate for an at-large BCS bid.

Believe what you will, but Iowa is 14-17 since that day(12-17 vs FBS) & Wisconsin has 3 B1G titles.
If there was ever a line in the sand moment/game, that was it for BOTH programs. Yes, Iowa has had several "good" games since but the program is not anything near what it was prior to that game/moment. That moment was as a defining play as I've seen in my lifetime on a long term scale. Profound moment.

Well then the Hawks are 12-17 since they lost to Northwestern in Evanston that year. My turning point has a worse record since then the one you are arguing for.
