Multiple Coaches Leaving the Program

Believe what you will, but Iowa is 14-17 since that day(12-17 vs FBS) & Wisconsin has 3 B1G titles.
If there was ever a line in the sand moment/game, that was it for BOTH programs. Yes, Iowa has had several "good" games since but the program is not anything near what it was prior to that game/moment. That moment was as a defining play as I've seen in my lifetime on a long term scale. Profound moment.

This. Iowa and Wisconsin spent the better part of a decade fighting it out to elevate themselves to the next level in the Big Ten. They were on the same level for a very long time; Iowa had a chance to put the battle to bed after the Capital One Bowl and their great recruiting class. They ****** it away.

But even then, they managed to stay right there with Wisconsin. And after the Orange Bowl, Iowa again had a chance to build on something good and elevate themselves. They ****** it away.

Now, the debate is over. Wisconsin didn't waste their opportunity, and Iowa let two golden ones slip away.

People want to dramatize everything and act like this big catastrophe of a fake punt was the end of the good ole days for Iowa football. It didnt really play out that way.

"It didn't really play out that way"

According to you it didn't really play out that way. Other people don't see it the way you see it. Just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean you are right, and they are wrong. You do understand that your opinion isn't fact right? Just like my opinion isn't fact, nor is any other poster's opinion fact on this board.

The program has gone downhill since that Wisconsin game. Wisconsin's program has vaulted forward since that game. I can see how one could draw a line in the sand at that game. Yes Iowa has had a few nice wins since that point, but by and large it's been a slippery slope.

Well no kidding. You could post this in every thread on this message board.

Personally, the end of Iowa's second run under Ferentz came with Adam Robinson's concussion. The program really hasn't been the same since that moment.

Neither has Adam Robinson. #CTE #doper #nofuture

Or was it Adam Gettis getting hurt and pretty much Koeppel getting worked every game after that. Since we are nitpicking and isolating on every player and every moment of the 2010 season.:)

I agree. Possibly the most deflating loss in 20 years.

Im not really buying that. Hawks still only had 1 B1G loss after the MSU game. If they won out they still could have won a shared conference title. They wouldnt have gone to the Rose Bowl because of their loss at Arizona but would have been a very strong candidate for an at-large BCS bid.

Give me a break. The real problem was both guards going down and having to start a fifth year walk on at guard next to a smallish first year starter at center. Add to this that KF left ARob in to get his brain scrambled at MSU and there went the offense.

2011 and 2012 were just normal down years for the program under KF.

What are you talking about? There was no problem with 2010. It was a good year for Iowa. Remember 3 bad years, 3 good years.

Wut?

Iowa self desctructed in that loss to NU in Evanston. They were leading comfortably until Stanzi tried to heave a ball downfield into the wind that got picked off down by the goal line and gave NU new life. The Hawks win that game and who knows what happens the next 2 weeks.

The loss that started the program on its current decline was in Evanston that year, not Iowa City.

Even with the injuries you stated, Iowa was the more talented team against NU and Minny.

Iowa has been more talented than NU for pretty much forever. Hasn't stopped Iowa from losing to them as of late. I don't think you can count that one as the turning point, since it was practically a carbon copy of the other losses.

I can count it as the turning point if I want.

Didnt you read DIP5555's post?

I have no idea what you are asking.

Not a question directed to you sorry. I just quoted you to simply point out that no loss is responsible for a 3 year slide, its the coach. We beat more talented teams once and awhile and unlike us they bounce back.

Yes, as you know, I do not look at the 2010 as a bad a year as many others. 8 wins is a good season by Iowa standards and the fact they did that with what happened in the middle of their line, their backfield and having to start a true freshman at MLB is fairly impressive.

Remember, they also graduated basically the entire offensive line from the prior year.

Even with that, if Gettis and MacMillan do not go down, the Hawks win 10 games that year.
