Multiple Coaches Leaving the Program

There have been rumors re: Erb and Wilson for weeks. Haven't heard any in connection with Johnson, other than I believe he would be moving to a Recruiting Coordinator pos full time at some time in the near future...and as The Boss said, he was a co-pos coach this last year.

I guess I am saying I would not be surprised if Erb and Wilson were gone nor would I be surprised if they were back, but I suspect each has turned over a rock or two.

And David Raih will not be around to take any of those positions...he is going to Texas Tech. I don't believe he will be pos assistant there, but he wants to go learn the Air Raid offense and will also act as a state of Texas recruiting liaison. He is building up a real good coaching repertoire having been around Skippy, Kirk and now with the offense Kingsbury will roll at Tech.

I think Raih wanted to stay but Kirk wasn't ready to pull any triggers on anything just yet. I think Kirk is talking to several people and he tends to be pretty methodical. Then again, if someone is a GA with you for three years, you probably know as much about them as anyone you could interview...so there is that jump.

Someone explain what the distinction is between someone called a "Graduate Assstant" and a coach on the staff.

Is this Kirks way of keeping his head above water after he wins 2 games. I mean he cant use the GD is new card anymore.

We wanted changes...we gettin'em. I am not a believer in GD unless hopefully proven wrong...but if they rest are outs i cant say its a killer. I guess i am ok with the changes if indeed true. Time will tell all

But i gotta feeling that unless kf would leave...no amount of changes would satisfy the OoTH. Am i right?

So other than getting more conservative.....what change have you seen? Kirk doesnt want to change. For all we know these coaches are leaving now before the the hole gets any deeper and they cant find jobs.

On the recruiting side, several of these coaches don't exactly have a stringer full to date.

Erb - Goebel & Willies
Campbell - Powell
Wilson - no verbals I'm aware of
Woods - no verbals I'm aware of

You think about the number of years several of these guys have had to build some relationships / pipelines that they would have a bigger impact this year with a good share of the East and Chicago/IL/WI corridors under their responsibities. Johnson, on the other hand, has been a lead with Harris, Mitchell, Rucker, and Kenny which seems like a respectable showing. Johnson has also been quite active all this month with other possibles that are still on the radar so his departure would seem somewhat questionable.

Some of this might also explain M. Rucker listening to other offers as Wilson had made several in home visits last year with him but now the latest visit was reportedly made by Johnson and Ferentz.....no Wilson.

If Ferentz can hold on to those that have verballed and maybe pick up a surprise or two in lieu of the rumored departures on the staff he will have done a decent job. I welcome the change if in fact there is going to be any. Since we're rebuilding we might as well be thorough in our efforts.

Honest question: Have any of these guys done anything that makes them stand out? Things need to be shaken up

At this point you could make that claim about any and all of the football coaching staff.

Personally that rationale doesn't fly. If the program is so chock full of assistants that aren't worth keeping, then what does that say about the state of the program.

With all these openings is it safe to assume Steven Ferentz will now become the youngest assistant coach in college football?

That was only slightly funny the first time I heard someone say it like 2 months ago. Nice try tho.

Maybe I am alone here... But Greg Davis's offense was worse than bad in his first year. It was downright atrocious. Ultimately, the head coach is responsible for all aspects of the program. However, if your offensive coordinator puts a pitiful offensive gameplan on display for pretty much every single game this season shouldn't he be the coach who is held responsible? I am not saying these guys should or should not go. Any time you see results as bad as the 2012 season I think it is reasonable to think that change is necessary. It is just mind-boggling to me that of all the things that need changed the most it's the offense, yet for some odd reason Kirk seems perfectly comfortable with that.

Link to the Steven Ferentz refernces? I usually go with the James Ferentz joke for any opening.

Plus I already got a Like for it, so take that.

I have zero desire to search for a link. Go ahead and think you are a comedic genius for believing you are the first to come up with it. I really don't care. In my opinion, it is worn out. Brian Ferentz can coach. Did his name help him? Of course it did, but that doesn't mean he didn't have the credentials or deserve it. He will be a successful coach when it is all said and done. That much I am confident in.

Well let's see....

Erb has overseen a position that has now become national legend for its injuries and attrition.
Eric Johnson has already been demoted once (from TE coach to Recruiting coordinator)
Darrell Wilson was gone as soon as Phil Parker was promoted.

Not sure that should be considered a demotion. It's a crucial role.

I'm surprised Erb has lasted so long with all the attrition to his position. I also don't see the one name I hope to see every time this kind of thing pops up.

That was kind of his point.
