Moss Transferring

Right now I'm guessing Conner, Jbo, JW, Nunge and Garza as the starting 5. In that position order.

if JT has B1G level handles and once he learns the offense, then i think he has to start. i'm a huge JBo fan, but i'd be disappointed if fran didn't move JBo to sg and start JT at pg once JT knows the offense and defense. we need his tenacity and quickness on the perimeter, especially, on defense. and JT was signed to be our pg for at least 3 seasons. let's just make it 3.5 seasons.

If I had to put money down, this would be the game 1 lineup I would pick at the moment. Connor would be the only one I could see potentially not starting if one of CJ, Pat, or Joe T are killing it in practice and force Fran's hand.

The post should be good with the players you mentioned plus Nunge. The question basically becomes who can step up and fill Baer's and Moss' minutes on the wing?

My guess is Pat will take on Baer's minutes at the 3 and spot time at the 4(starter or off the bench doesn't matter). Connor will likely get about the same minutes, so split Moss' minutes with Joe T and CJ. Jordan can switch between the 1 and 2 while Joe W can switch between the 3 and 2 depending on who else is in the game at the time.

i honestly believe that Nunge is the key. at 7'0"/250 and can shoot from 3 range, he should be a mismatch nightmare as a stretch 4. he's, perhaps, the only legit stretch 4 we've had under fran...with the amount of upside to perform. we got lucky that Nunge has grown a couple of inches to 7'0" since he arrive, but (hopefully) hasn't lost any of his athleticism he had at 6'8"/9".

Yep, you are preaching to the choir here. I've been a proponent of Nunge starting at the 4 once Cook officially leaves since Jack was a freshman playing out of position at the 3.

My guess is Jbo is the starting SG and Conner is the starting PG. I doubt that JT will start over Connor. There is a whole list of reasons why, but experience will have its factor. I imagine JT gets a healthy 15 mins a game though if he is up to the challenge. Next season after Jbo is gone then maybe Fran moves Conner to the 2.

Nunge could be the lynchpin of success. If the young man is ready he could make the wheels turn for this team.

Could be? He has to be. Nunge and to a lesser degree Pemsl have to be productive.

Whether he's technically the 4 or 5 isn't that important IMO (responding to the conversation above), what I'm really hoping to see is high-low action between him and Garza. Two bigs working well together in the half court is a nightmare for the defense, but, it takes tons of reps to make it work like clockwork.

Has to be doesn't exist in sports. Garza and Kriener are capable of playing the post. If Nunge is lost in space then it just leaves us thin.

I would concede that for us to finish better than 7th or 8th though Nunge will need to be solid. I fully expect that he will be.

Uthoff seemed like a pretty good stretch 4 his senior year. 2nd team All American averaged 2 3s a game and blocked 46 shots.

Good point. I often reflect on Uhl’s contributions his senior year. He was invaluable.
What the hell are you talking about?

He made two baskets and one free throw the entire year. 5 points. .3 PPG.

Every single one of his per game stats were < 1. The guy literally had no impact on the Hawkeyes’ season.

And people wonder when I say the shitshow begins this year it’s because the above is what I fear. Anyone who is excited about the prospect of Conner manning the Point position for Iowa hasn't been paying attention but that is exactly what our HC is most likely planning to do, as he dragged his feet on a PG for a reason!!!

I'll eat my shoe if Connor starts. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on JBo, Fredrick, Wieskamp, Pemsl, Garza starting the year for the experience and time in the program. Then by the end of the season, JT, JBo, Wieskamp, Nunge, Garza. No way McCaffery is throwing either of his sons under the bus by starting them unless Pat shows he's the real deal. They'll get plenty of minutes, but it will be out of the harsh spotlight of the starting lineup.

I'll wait until this actually happens before I pull up all my previous posts stating that this was Fran's intention all along.

It could be ugly, but since we all expect it to be ugly it could easily end up being ok.

It's just common sense of human nature to see that this would be the most likely intention.

This year could get really ugly really fast. By that I mean Iowa fans are gonna turn on Connor if he is given the keys to the team as the starting PG, when he is what he is. He is a workman like PG, not one that is gonna wow you.
