Missing Link to Next Level

The worm turns in football. WI fans (I live here) have already been on board with firing the head man. New generation of "fans" are like our society as a whole: Everything has to be perfect and right now.
I've lived in the state seventeen years. Football and men's basketball (and volleyball too) they don't realize how good they've had it.

Every damn teenager and college age student that I talk to through my kids associations knows of nothing but Badger success.

Wait until Barry is out of there. State legislatures won't mess with him because he knows where every one of their skeletons are hidden. The replacement won't be able to bribe the politboro as easily.

For those who don't know, the University, particularly athletics, has a long history of butting heads with State Government. Alvarez has kept the Lions at Bay. It won't last much longer. This is the University who had a chance to hire Bo Schembechler and Bobby Knight in the same offseason, 1969, and botched them both.

That comment is just plain silly. If you want to attack KF, at least do it for some good reason.
I don't think having the opinion that Kirk is average, unimaginative, and locked in the past is an attack. Many would agree that it is pretty accurate based on historical performance.

But thanks for sharing your opinion.

Fair and thought out comments, concur with some of them.

Choking is contagious, unfortunately. In lots of games (Illinois, et.al.) it doesn't matter but in the 3-4 swing games it does, and did.

Take out KF's first two rebuilding years, the last 18 yrs we avg 8.17 wins per year. The 7-5 myth is a myth. 81 wins in the past 10 yrs, 8.1 for you math majors. Anyone who says we avg 7-5 should be junk punched.
Spit take.

While that is true .... to compare nutcrackers to nutcrackers, it’s also true KF has faced quite a few new coaches in his twenty years that have also had to rebuild programs.

I wonder what his record looks like if one takes out the W-L of wach of those coaches’ first two rebuild years.

2-0 vs. Lovie
0-2 vs. Prohm
2-0 vs. Riley
0-2 vs. Chryst (not a rebuil but still first two)
Etc

Judge it how you like. Its your dime. Last 18 yrs...pretty good football record that most teams would take...

Yep and those 2 seasons count. But in the past 18 seasons.......genius......your whining about the Hawks gets old loser. Deal with it. How have KF's balls tasted for 20 yrs. How do you think they will taste the next 5-6? Enjoy your lunch. Haha I love that you have a few more years of suffering. Love it.

Kirk has some pretty bad runs going vs Wisconsin/Penn State/Ohio State/Northwestern...those are the big games each year, and Kirk's team wilt under such competition. Soft schedule and playing in the west make Kirk look better than he actually is, when looking at total wins, etc. Feast on Minnesota/Nebraska/Illinois + soft non conference pads the "win" column.

Please don't tell me how Kirk's balls taste. That's between you and Kirk.

I agree.

Most schools would take the last 20 years.

I’m just imagining what his record would look like if KF teams would drill new coaches for their first two years like he got drilled his first two. Heck, maybe his W% goes up since on the four listed he’s 4-4.????

Either way, to say KF is lazy or mediocre or doesn’t care if he wins more than 8 is just stupid.

Thats a cop out to say he got easy schedules. He doesnt control big ten scheduling and in Fry's day only Michigan and Ohio State were tough. Look at the history books. It was the big 2 and everyone else. And go back and look at fry's non-conference schedules. Iowa State, Tulsa, New Mexico, UNI, Central Michigan, Hawaii, Northern Illinois, Cincinnati, Utep, Drake....Iowa State every year, Tulsa at least 5 times, UNI 3-4 times....there are a few big time opponents but still heavy on the patsies.

You're the one that brought up numbers. Now they don't mean anything. Just explain to us what rules we are playing by and the rest of us will be happy to confine our arguments accordingly.
Easy. How many Div 1 FBS programs have more wins than Iowa in the past 20 yrs?

Where is it etched in stone that Hooker returns? He would be a bigger loss than either (not both) TE's. I would hate to lose Hooker. While I don't know what his draft projections might be he is critical to our scheme and I don't see a Hooker type player coming up behind him.
I've never seen or heard anything on Hooker's prospects. King and Jackson fell, Hooker isnt in the neighborhood and safeties are a dime a dozen to NFL folks.

Thanks. More evidence that you have not watched Iowa play this year. Our special teams are so much better than the last couple of years. Kick off returns are near the top in the country, and it is not all about a talented returner. Some trick plays have been installed and used successfully. Our kick off and punt coverage have been stellar. Our field goal kicker is excellent. Extra points are routine, as they should be. Yes, our punter is below average, but that is about recruiting, not the special teams coach. But, hey. Thanks for not knowing anything about ST's.
You were paying attention. Good post! Agree.
