I don't see the Big Ten being the entity that gives PSU a TV ban. That would punish PSU's B1G opponents as their games would not be watchable unless ESPN or ABC picked them up.

It has nothing to do with the family I am sure they did not not know, its the fact the family could not morally defend Joe, and took the legal road to try and defend him, speaks as loudly as a 400 page report.
Do you see B1G kicking them out entirely?
Sad in and of itself.
But...I have a hard time believing Jay didn't know IF we take the report at face value. He HAD to know. Which...in a sense...makes it WORSE that he seems to be the family spokesperson right now.
If I had to bet one way or another RIGHT NOW, I'd say they don't boot them. I think there is plenty of evidence there to totally support booting them. But, that's not an easy thing to do. I have no idea how contracts are worded, both in their membership, TV revenue entanglements, etc. Complicated.
LOL at anyone who thinks the B10 will seriously consider kicking Penn St out of the B10. I have a feeling people will be shocked at how quickly Penn St recovers. Penn St will come down hard on themselves, probably a cpl year bowl ban, take away some scholarships, big charitable donation. Bill O'Brien will be the sacrificial lamb of a football coach for 3 years. Run a squeaky clean program then get the boot in 3-4 years when the sanctions expire and it's an elite job again.
This. You people are insane to think they will be kicked out and given the death penalty.
If Penn State has the gall to send its football team to Iowa City this season, we should all, every one of us, turn our backs in dead silence when they take the field.
Not as disrespect towards the current players or coaches, but as a symbol of our collective disgust towards that university for still, STILL not getting it. Your football program and administration conspired to conceal child rape for 14 years, Penn State. You don't get to play football in 2012.

I'm personally going to go to State College and find some janitors and turn my back on them in silence to show my disgust for their inaction.
Maybe you can tongue Jo Pa's statue while you're at it, you filthy apologist.
=While I STILL disagree that PSU should dump or suspend their football program, I have no problem with NCAA sanctions of some kind. But as far as B1G goes, I am perfectly happy with dumping them, perfectly happy with keeping them.We have to remember, NO school is perfect, and most schools have had SOME issues. To wit, just since PSU joined the B1G:--Player death at NW (during practice, possible underlying issue OR possible staff issue)--UM practices issue--OSU and "tattoo you=", plus other allegations too numerous to mention--UW and MSU thinking="suspension=" is a type of bridge, not what is done to players accused of serious crimes--Iowa and the PP="negotiated redshirt as punishment=", and the rape/sexual assault occurence by football players who left or were dismissed from the programIn the case of Iowa, we really CAN say that allowing PP to remain with the team and not face punishment had negative consequences, as he was arrested again on a stalking/harrassment type deal, whereupon he uttered he was not the girls="mandingo=". That, alone, should have embarrassed each and every Hawkeye fan. Yet, the b-ball coach remained after BOTH those incidents. The football program, OTOH, has a pretty good handle on punishment. In short, let's drop the moral superiority. And let's not try and="rank=" crimes or sins. ALL are not="good=".But...if the B1G votes to get rid of PSU, it DOES send the message that the B1G will not tolerate things like this in the future. But the question will still remain at where, exactly, the line is drawn.Jon's piece mentions the Iowa scandal of 1930 and a $4000 slush fund. Sounds small, but was it small in 1930, especially on the heels of economic events that transpired in 1929?
The NCAA and the Big Ten need to do something. If not, they will have failed, particularly in the area of "public trust."
The world is watching.

The report yesterday crystalized the scandal attaching 4 names and faces to it. This is actually helpful for PSU. Those 4 will get hammered, and if alive,be sent to prison. That cuts out the cancer, and gives the NCAA and the Big Ten a way out of a sticky situation.
I could see a bowl ban, and loss of schollys from the NCAA.
The Big Ten will yield to the NCAA.
If the NCAA starts pursuing all criminals in athletic programs with sanctions vs the schools, it will never come up for air. Right now, at Marquette, the bb program is involved in a rape scandal of its own, where the athletic dept tried to contain a rape allegation to the campus police, and allowed some bb players to get a pass of sorts, only to have one of them have another assault allegation later.
No competitive edge gained in either the MU or PSU case, as laid out by NCAA rules.
Huge settlements will be paid, and must be paid for, which means PSU football must continue to generate cash. The gnashing and ranting of the media is interesting. They are decrying the culture of power and sway of college football programs like PSU,after screaming and moaning that college football must have a playoff to reap more money and make those programs even more powerful.
The more the money there is in college football, the more powerful it becomes on the campus.
Every single writer like Dan Wetzel who ranted about the need for a playoff, with all the money left on the table....they should stop the hypocrisy in the Paterno scandal. They are advocating for Nick Saban to become king of the world with the playoffs in place....while screaming about JoePa being King of the World. Cannot have it both ways.
The advocates of the playoffs always asked for one good reason to stay with the stodgy old system, when a sexy new money machine beckoned...well,here is one...the arms race continues to ramp up,creating more cultural insularity, with more money coming into the sport.
I,for one, say we need to scrap the playoff, and de-emphasize this obsession with finding a single true champ...lower the volume,it is out of control.
