Miller in full apologist mode on Twitter (again)

I think part of it is Fran recruits like he is still at a mid major school. he needs to get the best available talent whether it is HS, Transfer or JUCO.

Here it is folks, the "what have you done for me lately" generation on steroids ^.

Fran takes us to 3 straight NCAA appearances and now he suddenly can't coach. It was a terrible loss but we have a lot of freshmen. At least give it to the end of the season to see if there's some improvement before jumping ship, though I personally don't care if you do or not.
Here it is folks, the "Fran gets a free pass because he followed lickliter" generation.

In 7 years, how many NCAA appearances and tournament wins has Iowa had? How about overall B1G record? History shows that Iowa basketball can do better than this.

Can't blame Lick for this mess forever, though I am sure you will use that and any other possible excuse.

3 straight NCAA appearances - 33-21 in the B1G in that period - 2 NCAA wins - finished 3rd in the B1G the last 2 seasons, won 89 games over the last 4 years is one of the better stretches in school history. Fran gets a free pass

No, Fran doesn't get a free pass because he followed Lickliter. But he does get a free pass for the first two or three years after he arrived. We should have made it in his third year if not for terrible officiating against MSU.

So when you say we've only had made the NCAA tournament 3 times in his 6 years you are being misleadingly because there isn't a single coach that could have turned this program around fast enough to make the NCAAs in the first couple of years after Lickliter.

Starting in year 4, when Lickliter was no longer a reasonable scapegoat, we made the NCAA. We made it three times in a row. Are we going to make it this year? No. But 3 out of 4 years is very good. Again, its not fair to count the first three years against Fran. Iowa isn't going to make it every year. As John noted in his article, schools with better basketball reputations than Iowa have missed the NCAAs from time to time. Occasional rebuilding years happen.

Excellent cherry picking by focusing only on the last 3 years (we could, of course, discuss the meltdowns those teams had, but you are failing anyway). And, if you really want to focus on trend lines, this year is a mess, so your "upward trajectory" argument is a no go.

There are coaches out there that could have done it

It's frustrating because all we will hear about again this year is Iowa State's 6th straight NCAA tourney. Their sustained success is maddening and they do it because they get transfers every single year to mix in with their recruits. They don't allow themselves to have a dropoff like Iowa has. Fran needs to get this figured out.
Well our basketball team would beat their football team at football if that helps.

Its about balancing out your classes, for a coach to be at a program 7 years, it probably should have more juniors or seniors on it. You have got to continue to sprinkle in Grad Transfers, regular transfers and JC's, now his 1 JC got injured, but he should have more than 1.

Do this and maybe the valleys of a peaks and valley program may not be so low.

This just isn't true. Fran has aggressively offered high level players since he got here. As you would expect, we usually lose those battles. But we have won a few, most notably with Woodbury, Cook, and Garza. Fran was able to get Cook and Garza because he offered before anyone else and developed a relationship that allowed him to beat out the other schools that offered later.

Fran has recruited JUCO players, it just hasn't worked out yet. We had that former felon that left, Dickerson that didn't pan out, and now Dale Jones who has just been injured.

Some of the "mid-majors" types we have offered have actually turned to to be great. Guys like Aaron White and Peter Jok. And when UNI beats us in a few weeks, people will be on here complaining that we don't recruit enough mid-major players...

We've had plenty of recruiting misses: Andrew Flemming, Brandon Hutton, Pat Ingrahm, Kyle Meyer. But that's just college basketball. We are not Kentucky.

ISU is not as good this year as last year. They are definitely having a dropoff. They just haven't fallen off a cliff like Iowa. But it doesn't mean they won't They are starting 4 seniors this year. We started 4 seniors last year. They will likely have the same issues next year that we had this year.

I didn't cherry pick - i took the last 4 seasons. If you want to hold the mess Fran walked into when he came to Iowa against him - then I can't help you. I also said nothing about an upward trejectory

Except they will seek immediate help to fill holes by going after grad transfers and JUCOs in addition to the HS kids. That is the difference. So it is too early to tell how much they will drop off.

No clue why we took 5 scholarship freshman in this class

This. If you hit on all of your top targets, then yeah take 5 freshman but the only top targets they landed were Cook and Pemsl. You are better off getting a transfer, grad transfer or JUCO. to provide immediate help then a 4 year project.

Bohanon looks like he could be a deadly shooter (quick and accurate). The kind of player you dread playing in the Big Ten. He is going to be good.

What a bunch of crybabies. The past 3 years in B1G conference play only Wisconsin and Michigan State have more conference wins. Are we taking a step back this year? Clearly. But to suggest Fran and his staff are now clueless is ignorant.

How do those teams rank in terms of NCAA tourney wins over those three years? B1G titles? Meanwhile, please keep calling other people ignorant.

Coach K, Calapari, Rick Pitino, maybe Izzo and then who?

There isn't a single coach that could have turned this program around fast enough to make the NCAAs in the first couple of years after Lickliter.

You're really not going to make me say his name are you? Think little brother
