Martin in the portal

Gross, but I feel like I always knew this is how this would end up... I just expected it to be ISU.

I woulda thought Purdue with their coach and pass happy offense mighta been a good fit since Moore was opting out it'd have opened up a spot if nothing else. Of course Neb would welcome him with open arms since he's willing to walk on. I also kinda thought he may go the Big 12 route since that's a pass happy league. And oh actually going to play this fall... But oh well is what it is.

This is just really odd. He was almost certainly only one injury away from seeing quite a bit of the field at Iowa. Now he's going to Nebraska to play with a quarterback who doesn't pass the ball well and there's zero guarantee of playing time there.

Right. And his senior year next yr he'd have set himself up nicely to play a boat load if he'd stayed. Oh and he'd have been on scholarship still too... It seemed like quite the knee jerk kind of move. Especially prior to spring practice and competition even getting started. You'd think he'd have tried that and then see where you stack up first. But nope.... Of course Rona cut that short making that irrelevant but still he'd already bailed before.

Bummer, I hope he finds some place he feels is really a good fit. I realize this is going to sound like stirring the pot, but could his departure relate to Dillon Doyle's transfer? I believe they were high school teammates at IC West.

Could be nothing, I just wasn't sure if the Martin and Doyle families were close.

Wish him well! Iowa needs to double Copeland's salary. The talent (current and incoming) at WR is the highest it has reached in KF's tenure.

Agree on Copeland...pay dat man his money!

Well fellas, in the year of 2020, I’ve learned to rule absolutely nothing out. I’m sure more surprises are in store before December 31. Sit back, enjoy the ride, and have a beer (or a case).

Honestly, why? He had to walk on, so I'm guessing he wasn't particularly in demand by any school. He had 16 catches in 2 years at 2 different schools, I would have been shocked if Campbel went after him.

If he was good enough to get offers from Iowa and Michigan and he's likely to be on ship at Nebraska by the time he plays a down, he's likely good enough to get a sniff at ISU.

I don't know jack shit about ISU's current roster and I don't really give a shit, but the past few years ISU has had go to receivers who are way better than the guys Iowa, Nebraska and Michigan. I think Iowa is turning a bit of a corner, but ISU has been living pretty large at WR under Campbell.

It'd have had to been a need for Campbell to do so. I have no clue about their roster atm either or how many schollys they have. Maybe the WR room is pretty full there too. Maybe he just didn't want to go there for any number of reasons who knows I haven't read any interviews with him. Without knowing what he was thinking it just feels like he wanted to play sooner then later and he didn't want to roll the dice on being a backup at Iowa this yr again and maybe (good chance of) getting to start and play alot next yr. Not factoring in the covid madness. It's just hard telling.

A part of me is curious as hell as to what he's thinking but another part of me is like I've had enough of everything OM. He pissed the bed getting greedy going to Michigan to begin with. If he'd have came to Iowa day 1 he'd be in a way better situation. But we all make our beds
