Martin in the portal

Didn't D. Nixon enter the transfer portal last spring? O. Martin may still end up playing for the Hawks. Besides, 1st game is in a month, he doesn't have time to apply and get accepted to a new school and find a new team that has room for him in just 4 weeks

IowaLaw called this transfer after the first Big 10 game last year when watching Nico Ragaini drop 5 balls and embarrass himself on punt returns, yet stay in the entire game while Oliver Martin rode the bench the entire Big 10 season.

Oliver must have rubbed Brian the wrong way (I hope he speaks out), and if this summer has revealed anything, it's that many players believed they couldn't get a fair shake at Iowa. It's a shame because Martin could have been a stud at Iowa. He was good enough to play as a freshmen at Michigan and was a high school all-American who was one of the best WR in the history of Iowa high school football...he sure as hell was good enough to play at Iowa the entire last half of the season when Brandon Smith was hurt.

I figured if they would have had a spring to practice that would have helped sort things out more for him. I would have loved to have seen him get more PT and a run at punt returner (especially after what you mentioned with Ragaini and that bad game or 2 I think he had) He dropped more then a handful of balls over the year it seemed like. I have a tough time thinking Martin couldn't do what he did or better.

At this point I look at it as the kid just isn't a Hawkeye. He may have been born and raised in IC but he sure wasn't a Hawkeye because if he was, leaving now shouldn't be on the table. When times get tough man up and put your best foot forward. You think Warren Holloway is glad he stuck around for the end of his career? I know I am. Most Iowa players if you stick it out and do your best will not be sorry you did so.

Iowa is better off with him leaving if that's his attitude. That used to be a huge turnoff for coaches too. I mean a twice transfering kid who was just at home sweet home that didn't think he could beat out some 3 star lighter recruited kids then him for PT? That said he'll find a new home. Somebody will gladly take him. It'll be interesting where he goes

I hate Michigan but that was an uncatchable pass. The ref in the corner called it, you can see him signal.

It was an airball and landed on the white dashed line outside the playing area. If Martin had tried to jump he might have sold it to the refs but even with no hold he wasn't gonna catch that thing.

Right call, IMO.
Dunno man, he's got a 42" vertical and that had a low trajectory. He should be able to make a play on the ball without being pulled out of it. Agree to disagree.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Nixon entered the portal last spring, but still played for Iowa last season. I've seen a couple places state that OM is transferring, but technically this isn't true yet. Players can enter the portal to test waters, but stay with the same program if they choose.

Sore. Gallbladder out two years ago. Appendix pulled last night. Hope that’s it. Need the rest.

Just got home.
I did the gallbladder thing in ‘05.

Hope you feel better and heal up fast. See if you can get your wife to give ya half a glass of wine with those hydros. You’ll be writing her love letters in no time :)

That's harsh. I realize life ain't all sunshine and rainbows, but damn saying my man has no cojones is cutting pretty deep.

Looks like Rob has company on Kulick's favorite people list.:)

Tyrone Tracy stepped up when Smith went down, really took his opportunity and ran with it. That pretty much shut the door on Martin.

Not exactly sure how the X Y and Z shake out in Brian’s scheme but Tyrone was really productive from Northwestern on

Much ado about nothing. Kid was overhyped from day one. He was never going to have an impact no matter where he went.

Just like some kids are way underestimated, some are way overestimated. What makes me laugh hysterically are the people last year saying how the Hawkeyes were criminally underutilizing him and flipping out over his playing time when they had literally never seen him play football or seen him practice. They had it in their brain that he was the next Julian Edelman and couldn't come to grips.

ISM, B Smith, Tracy, and Laporta r 4 quality receivers and sargeant and Goodson are very good receivers from backfield or slot. not much room for Martin.

Question, how many times can you Portal?

My guess is he moves to FCS so he can have immediate playing time. He can't afford to miss another year and he isn't likely to get another waiver. Whatever the case, I wish him well.
honestly at this point they've gone from giving nobody but blue blood players waivers to giving everybody and their brutha a waiver. I mean literally, Tuas brother got a waiver.

As many times as you want, but you have to sit out a year every time unless you are going down to DII or DIII. The only way you can play immediately when going DI is if you’ve never received a scholarship and you were never recruited by your original school. Or some other weird reason like your coach quit, etc. None of those exceptions apply to OM.

And since you have 5 years to play 4, that pretty much limits you. If you sit a year for a transfer, that year counts towards your 5.

Well if he still can’t get on the field then he probably isn’t as good as his big head thinks he is. It would be best to stay with Iowa and get his education and degree. That degree will last longer than football will.

Especially a degree from a B1G university.
