Actually this makes more sense now. So actually Dale Jones will be playing as a Senior next year, meaning we will have an additional scholarship to use on a 2017 recruit. (Connor - Jok; new recruit - Jones). Here's where it gets interesting, assuming Jones applies and his granted an additional year following next season (see Amile Jefferson), then we will need an additional scholarship to free up via transfer or Connor walking on in order to keep Jones. I could be off on this thinking, but does this seem accurate?

As it stands now, if Jok returns, we take Dailey, Jones gets a sixth year and Connor takes a scholarship, we have no more rides to give next year. Connor would the scholarship that would open up from Jok's exit after next season. We would then have another ride in '18 to go with Wieskamp that would become available when Jones would finish his sixth year.

How can Rob leak something? He said he doesn't know anything else.
In this case I'm sure he don't. But reporters are often told things and then asked to not report it and it be off the record or just sit on it for a length of time. Then said reporter will anonymously leak it out without putting their own name to it to not burn a bridge with said person... That stuff happens... By no means was I saying Rob did or does know anything just generalizing.
In the social media world we are in now it sure makes this kid unique to want is recruitment to be private. More power to him.

So we're signing two guards in this class and neither had a good offer outside Iowa. At least Dailey's film looks good but I'm a little skeptical. Really wanted Moore or Vital

He just followed JB. Along with Pemsl, Dillard, and CW. Not ground breaking and yes I have no life but I think we got him.
Cubs and Hawks baby!

Dailey looks more impressive than Vital. But Moore is more of need because he's a PG. Dailey looks promising for future but not sure he offers much next year. PG play going to be very raw without a true PG and 2 underclassmen running the show. Will be heavily scrutinized. Here's hoping they blow away expectations.

I look at offers more than tape because everyone looks good on tape. I liked Vital and Moore better

Just contacted Dailey to make sure he's on course to announce tomorrow. He said yes but needed to push announcement back to 1:45 pm CT from 1:30.

When does Jones apply for a 6th year? If it's not before next year then I'm under the impression that he will be considered a senior next year, which would mean Fran could still sign an additional 2017 recruit. If he did, he would be assuming someone would transfer or Connor would have to walk on to keep Jones for a potential 6th year if granted. I could be wrong on this.

Also, Weiskamp can take Uhl's scholarship.

Offer list isn't very impressive. A grad transfer would've been ideal. Not sure how they can be "right fit" for better programs than Iowa but Fran doesn't feel they are "right fit" for Iowa. But not happening so moving on. Fran must feel this is the best he can get and if he's a Hawkeye, I'm happy. Just not sure he's going to make big enough impact to help team much next year when they really need help. Future looks bright though.

BTW, CycloneFanatic sure has hot takes on Iowa's recruiting. Up to over 1000 pages and it's pretty pathetic.

It's hard to line everything up year to year with factors yet to be determined. We need to look at things over the next two recruiting cycles with the unknown of Jones' 6th year.

We don't know if Connor will walk on or if someone else will transfer until/if it happens. I'm outlining the scenario from what we know now. If we try to add in unknowns, it makes our head spin.

If Dailey commits today, which I fully expect he will, that leaves us with three scholarships for '17 and '18. We only have three upperclassmen - Jok, Jones and Uhl.

If this is Jones' last year, we can use his scholarship in the '17 cycle. If Jones gets a 6th year, we only have Jok's schollie to use in the '17 cycle. Right now, that's Connor's. So, we would be done in '17 unless Connor walks on. We don't know that he will.

If Jones doesn't get a sixth year, which me might not find out until during or after this coming season, we would have another scholarship to use in '17 beyond the one (Jok) that right now is earmarked for Connor. We could also roll that into '18.

Anyway you slice it, if Dailey commits today, we have three scholarships to use in '17-'18 (Jok, Jones, Uhl) as of what we know today. From what we know today, two of those are spoken for with Connor and Wieskamp.

Jess Settles is helping him to apply.

Unlike, Drew Ott, I'm pretty sure Jones fits into the NCAA's rules, right? If Jones doesn't get the extra year, well, then I guess I'll just have to keep hating the NCAA.

If I had to guess, Fran may be approaching this much as Creighton did a few years back with Doug McDermott and Grant Gibbs getting a 6th year. Recruit like you have an open '17 ride and if Jones would get a 6th year have Connor walk on for a year. To me that's really the best way to approach it rather than waiting until possibly after the season to find out if you have a scholly to give and then playing from behind with recruiting targets.

Bingo. You have to keep recruiting. Always.
