Maishe Daily

I reckon Maishe made some commitments to tell one or more coaches yes/no personally before committing anywhere. It is a very good sign that he visited. I reckon I feel purty good about this young man.

LET ME BE CLEAR: I am not saying that this kid has the game that the person I am going to throw out had at the high school level, or that this kid will ever even sniff that level of play.

But just his body language, how he moves, seeing him use his length and body the way he does against smaller players....it reminds me of high school tape of Harrison Barnes. Again, he's not gonna be that good, he isn't THAT good...just mannerisms and style, Harrison instantly came to mind.

His length with his guard skills is impressive. He can shoot, has decent handles, is athletic and wingspan would play havoc in passing lanes. Good vision. This seems like the type of kid Fran has done a fantastic job developing. You take him if you can get him and next year, you let Williams and Bohannon learn through some lumps.

As a lefty, he showed me signs of Jalen Rose.

If that's the way it's going down, than that does say a lot about the young man. we fans often times forget about the timing that has to take place with notifying other coaches or programs.

Regardless of what happens here, Iowa's team next year will be the most athletic we've seen in quite some time.

Couple ?s for Rob or others with more knowledge than myself.

1. Say we land this kid, how does that effect are ability to recruit for 2017? Say for example we find a recruit we like that wants to commit, well we don't really have an open scholarship during the regular recruiting cycle, basically are we stuck playing the waiting game until after the season when someone inevitably transfers? Then we are back in the same position as now looking for misfits, for lack of a better term.

2. Also, is there potential that maybe BE still has time to transfer? I would have to imagine he can see the writing on the wall at this point, especially if we sign another wing/guard. That would free up another scholarship for the 2017 cycle anyway.

Landing Dailey would affect out recruiting in '17-'18 as it stands now and provided he stays in the program for four years.

As of today, we have four rides available for the '16-'18. That's total. They would be for Jok, Jones, Uhl and one left fro, Fleming and Hutton leaving (one went to Baer). We have two verbal commitments in '17 and '18 (Connor McCaffery and Joe Wieskamp). So, that leaves us with two to use in '16-'18.

If Dailey takes one. That leaves us with one for '17-'18. One more could open up if Connor walks on.

As far as BE, it's pretty late in the process. I believe players go on scholarship for next year starting in June.

So we're getting Harrison Barnes 2.0? I like it!

Is this a real possibility?

I agree that there's nothing to be gained by 'leaking' or reporting things against the wishes of a kid. It's indeed his life and you'd think it'd be that simple. Glad there's some Rob Howes out there anyway.

I love that he's a lefty and he's aggressive out there. Not sure what to make of the level of competition he's out there against but Frans a better judge of that then me. The game seems to be really getting away from the traditional 5 positions anyway. If the GS Warriors aren't exibit A to that I don't know what is. Throw 5 guys out there that are 6'5-6-9 that can all run handle and shoot.... When you have 3 mismatches on the floor at all times it sure puts pressure on the other team...

I really like his game based off his highlight tape, he definitely stands out over Vital. Not sure I understand why he has so few high profile offers though, or Fran's reluctancy to ever bank a scholarship in order to be more selective, aim for higher caliber recruits, and have more even dispersed graduating classes.

He hurt his arm this past year Which might be a reason that he wasn't recruited higher. He says he is still growing, and he might of grown some since last year which would effect his interest. I think he plays on a small high school team in Ohio.

He was thinking about going to a prep school, so it wouldn't surprise me if he would redshirt his first year. He looks like he could use a year of weight work.

Possibly. But there is playing time to be had next year. Graduation of Gesell, Clemmons and Uthoff opens up a lot of perimeter minutes.

How can Rob leak something? He said he doesn't know anything else.

Actually this makes more sense now. So actually Dale Jones will be playing as a Senior next year, meaning we will have an additional scholarship to use on a 2017 recruit. (Connor - Jok; new recruit - Jones). Here's where it gets interesting, assuming Jones applies and his granted an additional year following next season (see Amile Jefferson), then we will need an additional scholarship to free up via transfer or Connor walking on in order to keep Jones. I could be off on this thinking, but does this seem accurate?
