It would make sense to get him whether or not Jok is coming back. Is Iowa so well-stocked that we can't use another good athletic wing? No, we are not. Perimeter players right now are Jok, Bohannon, Williams, Moss, Ellingson and Baer (who is kind of a hybrid 3/4 man). Jok (and to some extent Baer) are the only proven commodities. Moss MIGHT be very good. Same with Williams. But we haven't seen enough of either to know for sure.

I'd rather get a true PG then add another wing when we have some depth there. His film looks pretty good but no other schools offered so I'd rather bank it for some top talent we can go all in on in 2017

but no other schools offered

Nobody else offered Marble, should we have passed on him? Nobody offered Aaron White, should we have passed on him? Nobody offered Peter Jok, should we have passed on him? Nobody offered Christian Willams, Nick Baer should we have passed on them?

I would be worried if this were Lick offering kids. Fran has a track record of doing pretty good with under the radar kids. No, he isn't perfect, but he has struck gold far more often than others, he has a pretty good eye for this, so I'll trust him and what he wants over internet posters.

You're not likely going to get a true PG. Give me athletic wings who show signs they could play some PG, all day long.

Believe what you will but that's all I know. He visited last week, he is considering us and he will announce tomorrow (Wednesday) at 1:30 pm CT at his high school. Still looking into it for more info but the kid is trying his best to keep things confidential. We'll see how it goes in the next 29 hours until he goes public.

The way you worded your post made it sound like you know more but can't say more.

Sounds like he wants to play for a program that is beyond the mid majors which is where the majority of his offers have come from to date. Several BIG's have shown interest (MI, WI, IL) but Rutgers the only one to offer. Had announced for awhile he wanted to go to prep school to better develop and then be more attractive to a bigger program for 2017. Sounds like that came to a halt when Rutgers offered. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up a Hawk......only guessing.

His HS coach................“Every college coach loves his ability to handle the ball, make the correct pass, find the open man and be a good teammate. He always makes the best basketball play. He doesn’t play selfishly. That is why so many colleges want him."

Are we absolutely certain he has an Iowa offer? In the veil of secrecy, I don't think that's too much to ask.
I actually like his game -- he adds something that Iowa is lacking -- the ability to beat his man off the dribble or pull up and shoot the outside shot. Iowa has plenty of outside shooters, but virtually no one with the skills to take their man one on one and beat him. If he can play a combo guard position, then right now, I would rather we get more athleticism on this team immediately.

I really like his game based off his highlight tape, he definitely stands out over Vital. Not sure I understand why he has so few high profile offers though, or Fran's reluctancy to ever bank a scholarship in order to be more selective, aim for higher caliber recruits, and have more even dispersed graduating classes.

He has an Iowa offer. He officially visited last week and is considering us along with an undisclosed list of other schools. I asked him last night if we could write a preview story for his commitment and he declined. He said he didn't want out the other schools he's considering and wanted confidentiality until he announces his decision publicly.

While the lack of information for us can leave us curious, I wouldn't view it as a veil of secrecy. I would look at it as a high school kid that likes to keep things private, a rarity these days. I enjoy the kids that are open with me and like to publicize their recruitment. But I also respect and understand when others would like it confidential. It's their lives, not mine. I appreciate whenever they share information. They don't have to.

If his BEST of 20 offers was Rutgers and we offered, I think he is a lock with Iowa, UNLESS he is hell bent on playing closer to home.

The offers we see listed on recruiting sites' player profiles are from before he committed to Rutgers in January. With the demand outweighing the supply in the late period, I'd be surprised if there weren't more higher level schools involved. I have heard Michigan could be one of them. It has an open scholarship.

Ah I see. Thanks for clarifying. On a side note, you taking the high road & honoring the players request for privacy is the right thing to do. I'm all for that.

Take the best player available. That is what Fran is going to do. There is no need to waste a scholarship year. We will most likely have an extra next year Anyhow...

In addition, there is sure to be transfers most years opening up other scholarships, so if a team is a bit heavy at a certain position, there will be a natural attrition with players leaving looking for more playing time. Just the way it is. A team can only start so many and play so many.

Thanks. I think it's the right thing to do as well. He's a respectful kid and I wanted to return that respect.

... plus it does no good to get a scarlet letter on your chest by doing it wrong. YOu will get more out of doing it the correct way the way you are than taking the low road.

I keep getting my hopes up for these transfers and such and then the voice of reason hits again. I'm not letting that happen again personally. When they sign is my starting point for hopefulness from now on.

The good thing on this one is that we should know soon.
