Long Season

This post would suggest that people didn't know this was going to be a process this coming season before the games started? We lost so much and are basically starting over, the only game I had them winning of the 3 we've lost was SH and I thought that was a toss up. It was. It's clear that PG is a problem, but it's also both of these guys first real go at running the show for a D1 team. There will be improvement. There has to be and it will be fun to watch but know what you are watching.

We have lost a lot. Interesting, I was watching an ISU game this weekend and the announcers were talking about how in this day in age you have to get grad transfers to be competitive year in and year out in this day in age. There are so many out there, and this is a year we could've used one or two. Granted that means a couple of these other guys might not be here, but I just hate seeing a talented guy like Jok have a total waste of his senior year.

Honestly - i still feel like it's too early to throw the baby out with the bath water 6 games into the season with a team that only has a couple of upper class men. I also feel like anyone who watches college basketball could have predicted or seen this kind of start for Iowa. I also feel like not going the juco route pays dividends long term and I also expect this team to gel more as the season progresses. I don't expect a NCAA tourney, I still expect to be close. The season is roller coaster of ups and downs, this team will have some ups too.

There were a lot of people on here ready to get rid of players like Mike and Woody and seeing fresh faces. There were even multiple posters that expected the PG position to be better this year than last which was asinine

What's funny is we always lose most of our non conference games against good competition anyway. In the last 6 years, We've beat North Carolina, Florida State, Notre Dame, Xavier, and ISU once. I can't think of any others. That makes us around 5 out of at least 20. All those years we came back and looked much better than we thought we would in the Big 10.

The problem is we play 6 good teams this year which will most likely be enough to eliminate us from a chance at the NCAA. This would have been a good year to only play 2 or 3 good teams and take our chances with strength of schedule.

PG isn't much worse and it's still early. JB has a lot of turnovers but he has already made more good interior passes than Mike did his whole career. He is probably scoring more points per minute than Mike did too.

I assume you are just trolling me now

I've been pretty impressed with JB so far - the turn overs will be cleaned up - game 6 folks - i don't really get why he doesn't get any kind of buffer to improve and why people can't watch him and see the positives and see that he's going to get better.

Mike would go 3 game stretches barely scoring a point with all his assists to guys making jump shots. At least he would only have one turnover per game tho. Of course that one turnover was always on the last possession of a close game, but still...

Mike scored better than JB has, shot better than JB has, turned the ball over less than JB has, found open teammates better than JB has, and was WAY better defensively than JB. Our PG play was WAY better last year than it has been this year and it's not even close. JB is averaging almost 5 turnovers per 40 minutes and is shooting 24% from the floor and he's better offensively than he is defensively

I agree. He has a couple bad turnovers per game and it's like that's all people want to see. Probably because it's the one thing Mike did good. I see a kid with a good handle, a really quick release, and who can make some good passes. To me it's a good start.

Mike's offensive rating last year is 24 points better than Bohannon's so far. Do you realize how big of gap that is? Bohannon's offensive rating is the worst on the team now and significantly worse than any player on the team last year had

So, Mike was better out of the gate - I don't think that is a damning statement for the rest of JB's career but maybe it is.

His points per minute can't be much higher.

Stats can be pretty dumb sometimes. Like the fact that his assists were high but he had no ability at all to feed the post. And the fact that a guy can have a high offensive ranking who doesn't even try to score.

No but to say our PG play this year isn't much worse than last year is probably one of the dumbest things I've heard

I agree with that 100 - I didn't say that so I might have just interjected myself into your discussion all i was saying is it's way too early to give up on JB, I've actually been encouraged from what I've seen so far but I guess I didn't have huge expectations for a 3 star first year pg playing on a very young team to begin with.

He scored more than JB has.

Bohannon is only averaging 9.4 ppg per 40 minutes on over 11 shots. Mike averaged 10.8 ppg per 40 minutes on 9 shots

So it's pretty close and he's only played about 100 minutes in his career. If he shoots a little better (which I think will happen for sure) it will be way better because he actually looks to score. Take away 2 stupid turnovers per game (which I also think can happen pretty easy) and he's starting to look very comparable to Mike.
