Long Season

If Jok (who is a really good offensive player is 114, I would say 109 is pretty darn good. Ellingson at 105 shows what a small sample size can do. That could very well be why JB is at 84. One good game would change his number dramatically right now.

Yup he's basically making your point for you that stats can be swayed by a variety of different factors (play time, role, sample size).

I think it's pretty obvious that Jordans offensive rating will improve as the season wears on. He's shooting 24% from the floor and 29.6% from 3. He's a good shooter I think he's just rushing a little bit right now with his shot. Normalize those numbers out to say 35% from 3 which is certainly attainable and I think his offensive rating will be right up there. I'm in no way a Jordan supporter either but I don't think that's a stretch by any means.

He was a good shooter in high school, doesn't mean he'll be a good shooter at this level. Ellingson put up great shooting numbers in high school and is much bigger than Jordan and he's struggled at this level

Except for Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. This is why reading threads on this website is pure enjoyment as the comedy at times is off the charts.

You must be one of those guys who don't pay attention to basketball until football is over.

If that % doesn't go up this year and in the following years, then he shouldn't play anyways so it doesn't matter. I actually don't think he should play much as it is but Fran seems to prefer him over Williams.

Edit: What's Williams offensive rating?

It would be interesting to know the formula to fudge with the numbers a bit to see what it took to get his number to where Mike's was. Probably one less turnover here aND one more made basket there. The eyeball text tells me that JB is a better offensive player than MG. I wonder if 5656 has watched all the games this year or if he is making his judgements on stats.

JB has had a couple really bad sequences that really stand out. I think most people don't reflect after the game the whole body of work and just remember the really bad sequences. It's understandable too because they were really good. But take away two 2 minute stretches and he has looked pretty decent.

I've watched every game, you need new eye balls. Bohannon is a turnover machine so far who's shooting 24% from the floor.

Williams' rating is 87.

Going to be a long long year if those two don't improve a lot

This is one of the rare posts I can agree with you on. Without question if those two don't improve we are in trouble, not only this year but next year as well. Some around here, including myself, are still confident that they can and will improve with more experience and confidence.

You must not like being right then ;)

We could easily have one loss right now if our interior defense was just average and our point guards still played as bad as they did. Remember we were a top 10 team that just couldn't handle pressure (both close games and national attention) with average at best point guard play.

Better point guard play is one way to improve, but there are others. I'm fact, our offense is actually pretty darn good and the entire defense sucks, so I'm not sure why pg is getting singled out.

The PG's get singled out because the 3 worst offensive ratings for our team is Williams, Moss and Bohannon in that order and we're averaging 17 turnovers per game

Agree with this as well. I think our rebounding is something else that could still use some improvement. Our offense has been very effective.

It's funny, people on TOS are moaning and groaning about "position less basketball" being idiotic and a terrible idea. Quite frankly our offense has been really good and I haven't heard anyone complain about Williams defense. This biggest problem to me right now is defense, primarily giving up easy baskets inside.

I think position less basketball really hurts you defensively actually. You have wings trying to defend guard and bigs a lot

Back to disagreeing with you. It's not that Williams is a bad defender, in my mind he's one of our better defenders, and has done a pretty solid job defending guards. We are a bad defensive team because we have bad defensive players (Jok, Cook, Bohannon), we lack lateral quickness and strength needed to defend wings & guards (Baer, Jok, Ellingson, Bohannon), and we have no rim protectors (this probably is a bad bi-product of position-less basketball although there are smaller quicker players that can still protect the rim).

Point being you can still be a good defensive team playing "position less" style basketball, if you have the right players.

Do you understand how good the defense is in the NBA? Saying nobody plays D in the NBA is the stupidest myth of all time
I went to Timberwolves games for 5 years in the early 2000's I saw some pretty pathetic D I mean very pathetic....so yes I do know what I'm talking about but since the T-Wolves were no threat to win anything it could be because they were just that bad.

Our offense is fine and 3 guys that aren't point guards are killing us on turnovers.

I would lay some money that Iowa will not finish the conference above .500

If you have pretty much zero PG contributions and talent...and can't figure out or don't want to box out for rebounding...well...that is not a good recipe...

Rebounding is effort and can be learned...PG play is pretty athletic...of which, we are void...
So is playing defense and we just can't seem to do that consistently either. NOt like a Duke or Michigan State where they've got there hands in everyone's face all the time.
