Kirk announces coaching staff adjustments

I Agree. I can't remember if Barta hired Brands, if I remember right Brands came in the year Bowlsby left but he certainly didn't hire Bluter. Point is this dude has a poor, poor track record of hiring. Not only that, when he does hire he gives outrageously stupid contracts and contract extensions. It seems to me that in the next 2-3 years we will have new coaches in FB and BB. If so Barta is not the guy to make those hiring decisions.

I say let him rearrange the deck chairs to but time. We need a new President to hire a new AD so the new AD can make the hire.

I do not want Barta making any more decisions.

I keep saying this, the folks in charge (and a good many who arent) just dont see the issues ...I'll spell them out
1. Fast/ big in Pella, Milton, Greene or other small town Ia, is not big ten fast or big ie Mier (sp) s/b playing OLB NOT DE
2. You cant bring in recruits who have somthing to offer .....if you dont have somthing else to offer (Great Education at Iowa)
3. A position coach should have played or know all about that position ( it creates trust for the players, it shows you understand them)

I could go on but the real story is ... if you are a recruit who comes in and you look around and you say "nice place " but they gotta be asking themselves why are there no black girl cheerleaders? why no black girls on the basketball team? (great as they are and they are good) and maybe 3 black guys on the mens team? why dont freshmen get a chance?..then you look at your position coach and hes never played the posistion?

You see Iowa on TV ...WOW Kinnick looks awsome!! the camera pans the crowd.....you say great !! but why dont I see black folks in the crowds?
Im Black, I grew up and played football in Des Moines ..so I get it .....but if you are not from there, and you add up the questions, you see why big time recruits may not choose to come here, this is not knocking or digging up a race issue .....its about understanding other view points. Point of fact, why did we build the new work out building ?? because recruits see ALL that a place has to offer that compares with other schools and yes, girls are important to a 18-22 year old (and yes lots of pretty girls there) but seeing folks who get you and understand you helps as you maybe leave home for the first time......College is a life experince Iowa is a awsome place to go......but the folks in charge gotta see the whole picture from other sets of eyes
Now Im not saying having black girl cheerleaders is gonna fix our horrid play calling .....our poor tackling or the coach's inability to use talent the right way, but .....good recruits and good folks in the right jobs to coach them would be a heck of a step in the right direction.

I think many of you need to take a step back.

1. Iowa's run game has not been impressive for quite a while
2. Some blame the O line and the coach of the O line
3. Some blame the lack of good RB's (this is what I think the problem has been)
4. Brian F. has coached the O line and has been open to some criticism
5. Now, KF has made Brian in charge of the running game (which has been the object of a lot of criticism)

So...KF has placed Brian F. in one of the hottest seats on the football coaching staff.

Get it?

"automatic visceral responses"... You mean skepticism? more specifically, skepticism based on real, past events and patterns?

Automatic visceral response could just as easily describe your reaction to those with questions about the move.

in a word: Ironic

Not sure if serious.

Assuming you are, this means nothing. Kurt has further insulated himself. He is not going to fire Brain, regardless of how bad it gets.

This is nothing more than re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The whole lot needed to be fired and replaced.

I get what you're saying but there ain't many black people in Eugene, Oregon, last time I looked. Less than 2% of the population. Such things can be overcome with the right staff and the right AD attitude.

You could have Beyounce and Halle berry as cheerleaders, turn homecoming into freaknik, have the Southern band play at halftime..........none of that matters if you have a boring style and not winning.

It is more of a generational thing than a racial thing. The Iowa athletic department still thinks it is 1986. They have no idea how to relate to a millional(sp?).

I think the position coaches shuffling is all window dressing. That said this is a pretty long thread for something that might not change much of our on field performance. We have 2 good coaches. Reece Morgan and Phil Parker as db coach, not d-coordinator. The rest of our coaches are average at best.

The new President of Iowa's first move should be to fire Barta. Although he has done a good job making sure the department has a ton of money, he has done nothing with it but turn the major revenue sports into a dumpster fire.

I have basic questions - why does a team need a run game coordinator? Is this something a lot of teams have, and Iowa is just behind the times on this? And if there is a need for a run game coordinator, doesn't that coordinator need to coordinate with the pass game coordinator, since I've always thought that the running game sets up the passing game, and maybe vice versa. A run game coordinator can't operate in a vacuum, without input from what the passing game is trying to accomplish it would seem. Are they just creating a middle management position, that could lead to more dysfunction (if that's possible)?

I think a writer at ESPN said this was a great thing as it would allow GD to spend more time working with the quarterbacks and passing game.

I don't think that playing the position necessarily helps you coach the position. It really depends upon the type of player you were. Matt Patricia, the Defensive Coordinator for the Patriots, was an offensive lineman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Brendan Daly, a defensive assistant coach for the Patriots, was a tight end for Drake. Jedd Fisch, Offensive Coordinator for the Jaguars, never played a down of high school or college football. There are many others.

The gist is. You don't have to play the position to know how to coach it. Tom Davis was a perfect example. His strength was coaching up big men.

IOWA FANS are the ones who have done a good job of making sure the department has a ton of money.

Exactly. If a member of the staff isn't doing a good enough job then they need to be replaced. Why would they all of a sudden do a good job at a different position? I could see it when Morgan went from OL to DL, especially with Brian coming in, but this all just seems weird.
I agree. Seems like a bunch of bull crap to me
