Kirk announces coaching staff adjustments

I dont mind if Brian F is called Run Game Coordinator. Let him coach the line and concentrate specifically with which running backs are working best and who to play. Greg Davis will be calling the plays but maybe Brian F will get better run game production.

Some of you dont remember Bob Stoops had co-coordinators a few years ago as have a lot of coaches.

Woods played defense and has maybe always coached defense so not sure about this change.

If the other guy is coaching DBs is Phil Parker not coaching a position?

Hernandez? I do know he was a GA, and it usually takes two years to complete a masters.

Run game coordinator is a pretty common thing. Coach Fry did this. When Snyder left Jackson was O Coordinator, Ferentz run gm Coord. Then CJ went to the niners, Ferentz to Maine....Ohara was OLine/run gm coordinator. Done other places too.

Woods to TE is the interesting one. Played defense, at iowa and in NFL, kids loved him. Reid clung to Reggie. Must have been an uneasy deal sharing LBs

I think its Kirk's way of nudging Davis out the door without having to fire him. The problem is the offense sucked before Davis. Bottom line, Kirk got complacent in his job, recruiting went in the toilet and now we cant even beat the Clowns.

This whole off season has been quit comical, lets see if Barta is still laughing when I cut my donation in half.

That's is fine. KF will be the one getting the middle finger after next season. Next season will be no better than this season. probably worse. He will not survive that again. He will be gone and his legacy tarnished.

CJ will be running for his life and lucky to survive the season. Especially now the OL coach has additional responsibilities.

Pretty bizarre that the two most prominent things I'll remember about Ferentz when he's gone is an Orange Bowl win and a losing record to ISUcks.

I posted this on another site. I haven't changed my mind in the 2 minutes it took me to login over here.

These changes are superficial and done only to say "see, I made changes." Run-game coordinator? Really? There are only two flipping running plays in the entire offense, stretch right and stretch left. This is just a back door way to give BF credit as a "coordinator" and I don't like it one bit. You know, I'm just done with kfootball. Woods is one season away from sending 2 lb's to the pros, some of the all-time statistical greats and a trio of backers that started 3 seasons together, and he now needs to coach the tight ends? Really? Now you make your recruiting coordinator responsible for something that is NOT RECRUITING! Really?!

Geeez.

I'm going to "try" to see this from a logical point of view even though it all seems pretty odd. Maybe Brian has different points of view on running schemes than GD and is tired of his OL getting the blame for the running game and has convinced his dad that he can fix the running game. Maybe Brian wants to implement some different running schemes and coordinate that directly with what he's teaching his linemen.

As far as the rest of the reassignments, I can't really think of any logical reasons. It was rumored on this board that changes were promised to players in the offseason. The most recent kid who left was a linebacker. Maybe Woods just wasn't working out there and Kirk thinks Reid is a better option at that position. Woods is a legacy coach so it may be hard for Kirk to just let him go so he just reassigned him to TE's. Again, where does that leave Hernandez? If the recruiting coordinator is now going to be coaching the DB's maybe Hernandez steps in to pick up the slack in recruiting.

Anyway, that's my best attempt at trying to apply reason to these changes. We'll have the rest of the offseason to speculate and maybe more information will come out. Either way, this does nothing to make me any more confident in the direction of the program.

No offense to DJ, but I'm not sure you want him as the face of the program right now. You know with his brother and everything, it could make him recruiting a tough sell with the trial being so public.
