Kinnick Stadium Seating

30 rows up and as close to the 50 yard line as you can afford. I've never been a fan of watching from the end zones, since I'm used to the side angle from TV. West side of the stadium tix are usually a bit more expensive, and you'll get shade from the press box depending on time of kickoff. Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but Joe knew.
I know I am definitely in the minority here, but I want to be as close to the field as I can get. End zone, side lines, whatever. Just get me down there close to the action. Players, cheerleaders, herky, everything. And if we are playing ISU, you can smell the cow turds.

An important consideration as well is where you'll park. Or park and ride. There are options....but trying to get close to Kinnick can be daunting, even for us old-timers. It's rather disjointed up and around the stadium if you don't know the area.

You can park at the Finkbine golf course and walk the mile to Kinnick. Exit 242 off I-80 and follow signs. Also called Hayden Fry Way.

You can park at the performance hall called "Hancher" and either walk (about a mile+) or ride the free Cambus which drops you off three blocks from stadium. Starts two hours prior. Hancher is a mile or so off of I-80, exit 244. Follow the cars.

You can park at the Coralville iHop and ride the train directly to Kinnick, $12 ea/round trip...drops you off and picks you up right next to Kinnick. You can bring booze on, etc. I do this a lot. Leaves three hours before kickoff, and, runs up to 90 minutes after the game is over. Free parking at iHop. You'd want to take exit 240 off of I-80, runs south pretty much right into the area. Follow cars.
Another option is the area around the Myrtle parking lot. If the PSU wants a fun but somewhat lower key I'd suggest the Mennonite Church in that area. Myrtle is little more wild. Also something I tell people in University lots that are visiting hide your hard liquor. Not saying don't bring it but your not supposed to have it in these lots.

The train or downtown is OK but if you are making just one trip like this I'd be more interested in the tailgating scene.

As far as the seating, anything higher than row #10 will be decent, but again, try to get closer to the 50. Be wary of scalpers as some will sell you a student ticket which is worthless without a student ID.

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate it. As far as the scandal goes, I have my own feelings on the situation but that is not why I'm here. I didnt come to argue, troll or talk shit. Just to get info. Thanks to those who provided it. Best of luck this season.

Not here to bash you and I'm not implying you're a Joe Ped fan.

However, showing up to Kinnick in Penn State gear is more than likely not going to be an enjoyable experience for you unless you can ignore people referencing child molestation constantly or yelling at you about Pedterno. There is strong anti Penn State sentiment here because of the scandal and the abuse will get worse the drunker people get. Not telling you to stay home, just fair disclosure. Also, it's not just Iowa; by chance I happened to be in the area with a friend during the Indiana game when you played there last year, and I have to say that after hearing what I heard, there's no way I'd ever go to an away game as a PSU fan. Ever.

Sure you're a good dude, just wouldn't be my idea of a good time.

I look at it this way. If the same things went down at Iowa; the child rape, the cover-up over a decade involving the head coach and the higher-ups, apparently a possible cover-up from the local LE, the students/fans rioting over the firing, and the general support from folks in that part of the country for a guy that helped hide the child rape for several years, I would without a doubt burn all my Iowa gear and never support any Iowa athletic programs again. Sorry for the run on sentence.

Yep. I still have a sour taste in my mouth from the whole Pierre Pierce thing and that was like 1/10000th of what Penn State did.

I was also at the Iowa game in PA last year, and there were plenty of really friendly, welcoming people, but the vast majority seemed completely oblivious to the fact that the football program fostered a culture where child rape was ok, and saw themselves as victims being vilified by the media.

I could see some of the people still supporting the school if they acknowledged what happened and looked to the future as a new beginning, but most I met just wanted to blame everyone else for ruining their program.

The Joe Pedterno worship, however, was absolutely mind blowing and beyond anything I have ever seen. If you think husker fans make a big deal of "Mr. Davis," you should see how nutso Ped State fans are over their Father Joe who art in Heaven. They literally think he's some sort of immortal savior who couldn't possibly do anything wrong...t's like f'n Jonestown there. From what I gathered, someday he's going to come back to Mount Nittany aboard a spaceship and deliver everyone from persecution to the holy land.

And one reason I will never support Steve Alford. I honestly stopped rooting for the Hawks until he was gone. The day he was gone, I jumped back on the bandwagon. The day he was fired.

over "there" ... not "their" ....I guess this kind of fun. I see why you do it.

Quick question. Coming out for the PSU game. In the process of securing tickets and I've been told that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Any feedback from you fans would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you can afford it buy more seats than you actually need. It gets very cramped and is well worth the money.

I visited UNC earlier today and snapped this. That stadium holds nearly the same as Kinnick, with dramatically different design. All the seats have backs on them (save a few in the end zone).

To the right, out of the frame, they have a concourse atop the endzone seats, like what Iowa has planned.

Sorry PSUfan... This is a reason I don't post on here much anymore. Seems to be a lot of douchebags. Hope you find some tickets and have a great day at Kinnick... As long as we kick your ass... I was at the game when you were rated number four... Undefeated and we beat you on a last second field goal.. Joe PA's last great team. Was sitting next to Penn State fans.... We stayed a good twenty minutes after the game... relishing the win and sharing Black Velvet in pints with the PSU fans...good people.
I had a little brother who played for Southern Cal back in the 90s and took a trip out to Penn State. The fans were awesome... So courteous. As much as I love to tailgate at Iowa the atmosphere at Happy Valley was awesome it was a bucket list for me.

PSUfan - North endzone is tight both in lateral and horizontal seating space. Lot's of tavernhoks in that section. The ones that know the play before the QB snaps it. West stands are boring and usually covered with old farts and their wives talking about things unrelated to football. East stands - might be best to stick to this section. This is where most visitors sit and where you'll likely feel a part of your fan base. South stands - similar comments as the north end zone, only about twice as much seating space. Easy access in and out of the stadium, I might add.

All that said, I've had a great time in all sections. There really isn't a bad seat in the house, unless your in the first 10 rows of the west or east stands, as someone else mentioned.

Just be respectful like you would visiting a guests house and you'll have a good time.
