Kinnick Stadium Seating

Whole lotta stupid here. The guy came on looking for information...he didn't say he wished Paterno had set up more private quarters for Sandusky...damn people...lighten up on Penn State fan. If he starts babbling about the statue needing to be put back in front of the stadium in Happy Valley...well...then you can unleash your rage.

99.5% of the people you sit around are going to be good hosts.

I've sat several times on visitor sideline in first three rows at 50 with a lot of visiting fans... it's been a great time talking with them and trash talking with them. Best was a few years ago with Michigan fans. They were fun but cocky. Iowa knocked the cocky out of them.

Then there was that time that an Iowa State fan tried to start a fight with a guy sitting by us .... he missed his lunge and ended up in my sons' lap.

As @tksirius so eloquently stated before me, if I found out pedophilia was ignored at best; (Joe Ped knew his right hand man was a rapist and let him have his fun so as not to upset the apple cart and tarnish his sacred university) and supported at worst, I would immediately throw all my gear in the river and actively root against them.

I know you and I don't agree on that and you think I'm an asshole, but I just wanted to state where we're coming from.

Another parking option is to park in the city ramp on Clinton Street; they charge $1/hour and the 1st hour may be free. There's a free shuttle bus a block or so from there or you can walk to the stadium in about 15 minutes. This would be a good option if you want to go the bars downtown after the game. If this is your only time to Kinnick the best experience would be to go to the stadium area for the tailgating scene, but there are great bars to pregame at downtown as well. The Airliner is a classic right on Clinton; we like the Pullman Diner a block east on Dubuque...really good food and drink (co-owned by Nate Kaeding, ex-Iowa and NFL kicker).

Most fans here very hospitable, but you'll probably get heckled by drunks if you're sporting your gear. My neighbor made the trip to State College a few years back and had an awesome experience...students buying his group pitchers of beer the night before.

Hope this is a night game. If so, the atmosphere will rival your white-outs. If it's a tight game you'll be surprised how loud a 70,000 seat stadium can get. Have a good trip.

Well, Joe Paterno represented Penn State University, he ISN'T PENN STATE UNIVERSITY. What Paterno did was reprehensible and frankly unfathomable for such a revered figure. It's as bad, IMO, as Sandusky. Thankfully there has never been a similar incident in college sports that I'm aware of. That being said, if I had gone to Penn State, it would certainly shake my confidence in the University hierarchy and call for a complete flushing of the administration...which happened. Were people held accountable...yes...to the degree they should have been...I would say no. The embarrassment would be unthinkable and the stain would be hard to shake as an alumni of that school.

To say you would throw all your Iowa gear in the river is frankly ignorant grandstanding. My loyalty is to the University of Iowa for what it's given me and my experiences there. It's not to Steve Alford and his handling of the sexual assault charges in his program or any coach or program within the University. Your argument is ridiculous and I don't hold Penn State students or fans accountable for the failures of grown men who committed unthinkable crimes. Penn State alumni have to deal with the shame and the damage to their beloved university. That's alot right there...plus morons like you attacking them for asking about seating in a stadium. Nice work there.

Now, where I do take umbrage, is when Penn State fan belittles Paterno's involvement and culpability in this mess. I'll blast the crap out of that stance and be as ruthless as the next guy. That statue should be melted down and used to build a safe house for abused children or something. It should never see the light of day and there should be a plaque warning the public about abuses of power and the need to protect the vulnerable, especially children, in our society.

You do realize that 99% of Ped St fans believe Paterno was innocent, right?

Well, I don't believe the 99% number...but I know it's a large number. They need to let go of their delusions about Paterno. He should have gone to jail...period. I'll give Penn State fan the benefit of opening their mouths about those delusions before I start attacking them or saying they will be heckled just because they are from Penn State. That's low hanging fruit too to throw that in their face every time. I get the anger about the situation and that it can bring up what I would call irrational behavior on the part of fan bases. The current Penn State students have no connection to that time...and in a few years...few will be emotionally involved in the Paterno era. I'm willing to let them slide on having to wear this everywhere they go.

You apparently missed the part of my post where I told you that I already knew you probably thought my opinion was assholeish and that I'm ok with it.

And I never attacked the guy. What I did do, was tell him that I was sure he was a good guy and not implying that he was a Joe Ped fan. Those were my exact words, sweetie. It's right there in my first post.

I'm sorry you think I'm a "moron."

Well, not really I guess.

Shoe on the other foot? I would throw out my Hawk gear. I could not support a program in that situation. But do not misunderstand me, I will not judge you for continuing to support the program. That's your business.

Hey I apologize, I got you confused with tksirius...who was the one who immediately started the "you supported Paterno and Joe was guilty take" for someone asking about seating directions. My bad...and I apologize about the comment directed at you. It wasn't you who was the moron and I should have been more careful about those comments. Thanks for pointing that out...I was wrong.

You seem overly upset over this. Were you part of the Pedo St riots?

To sum the parking options:

- Hancher, ride the Cambus, begins two hours before kickoff and runs an hour after. All free
- iHop in Coralville, ride the train. $12 round trip. 3 hours before and 90 minutes after. Free parking
- Downtown in the clinton st parking ramp. 15 minute walk. Will fill up. Cheap.
- Finkbine golf course. 15 minute walk. $20 to park I'd guess. Not sure how fast it fills up
- Nook-n-cranny parking up around the stadium. $20 I'd guess. Get there early.
- And IC loves to ticket expired parking meters. They make a mint. FYI.

To sum the seating options:
- West side, older folks. Money folks. Tickets tend to be more expensive as it's the "home" side
- North and south endzones....lots of 'experts'. Visitor tickets get sequestered in a ribbon towards the top.
- South endzone is partly the student section. Also has very loud loud-speakers. FYI.
- East side (where I sit)....younger crowd, lots of energy. Visitors sit here a lot.
- Row 10 on up is decent pretty much anywhere.

If you win, don't wear your gear downtown after. A good friend of mine, OSU fan, got accosted after we lost to the Bucks in that GameDay game a decade back in the Airliner. Yes, he was in a Bucks jersey.

Joe Pa was the most powerful person at Penn State . . . it ended in a nightmare. The lesson for everyone in college sports should've been that no coach should be bigger than the school.

Gary Barta and the U of Iowa didn't learn that lesson. Gary got his ass handed to him in a law suit . . . and he turned his head and ignored 13 kids sent to the hospital by a fat man who was rewarded by KF with permanent job security and a scholarship for his son. That attitude toward the sainted one helped him lose his legal case. JMO but Gary Barta is no different than the idiots who ran PSU. And he would be just as craven if faced with a choice between firing his boss or sweeping things under a rug. The truth is he doesn't have the power to replace the HC. Nor does the school President. Not even the board of regents because of the magnitude of the contract. The most powerful person at the U of Iowa is the HC of the football program. And that's wrong . . . and it will always be wrong.

Greisbaum was FIRED for allegedly being verbally abusive to her players. They had complaints about a coach, investigate them and then fired her because of the findings. That is the exact OPPOSITE of Penn St.

You are also grasping at straws with Rhabdo. Did you even listen to Chad's interview of Doyle? He asked him about the incident, they talked about it. Iowa learned from it and has a totally different system now in place with very advanced technology to help with student athletes health. Once again, just the opposite of sweep it under the rug like Penn St. did. They look at the incident and said, we will never let this happen again, and take step to make sure that is the case.

LOL...that's hilarious...wait...you meant that as a joke, right?

It's real easy to point fingers.........isn't it. It was my understanding that those affected in the rabo case had been drinking the night before. People are so quick to place blame and unfortunately it sucks in all the innocent people with it. Yes as you would say the fat boy and his boss is to blame and Jo Pa is also. I'm just sick and tired of people being attacked for no reason what so ever. PSU fan I apologize to you for rabid Hawk fans. We here at Hawkeye Nation disapprove of what happened at PSU but have a hard time separating the bad guys from the good ones. Hope you enjoy your game and nobody does anything stupid to you or your family while in Iowa City.
