Well, Joe Paterno represented Penn State University, he ISN'T PENN STATE UNIVERSITY. What Paterno did was reprehensible and frankly unfathomable for such a revered figure. It's as bad, IMO, as Sandusky. Thankfully there has never been a similar incident in college sports that I'm aware of. That being said, if I had gone to Penn State, it would certainly shake my confidence in the University hierarchy and call for a complete flushing of the administration...which happened. Were people held accountable...yes...to the degree they should have been...I would say no. The embarrassment would be unthinkable and the stain would be hard to shake as an alumni of that school.
To say you would throw all your Iowa gear in the river is frankly ignorant grandstanding. My loyalty is to the University of Iowa for what it's given me and my experiences there. It's not to Steve Alford and his handling of the sexual assault charges in his program or any coach or program within the University. Your argument is ridiculous and I don't hold Penn State students or fans accountable for the failures of grown men who committed unthinkable crimes. Penn State alumni have to deal with the shame and the damage to their beloved university. That's alot right there...plus morons like you attacking them for asking about seating in a stadium. Nice work there.
Now, where I do take umbrage, is when Penn State fan belittles Paterno's involvement and culpability in this mess. I'll blast the crap out of that stance and be as ruthless as the next guy. That statue should be melted down and used to build a safe house for abused children or something. It should never see the light of day and there should be a plaque warning the public about abuses of power and the need to protect the vulnerable, especially children, in our society.
