Jok to Valley

Transfers happen all the time. There are even a lot of students that transfer for academics, I work in a district where that happens all the time because we have the reputation of being a good district. People only get mad when it is for athletic reasons. Which is ridiculous. If someone wanted to leave to get a better education EVERYONE would be applauding, not one person would say "what are we teaching this kid, they should tough it out," which is exactly what everyone says about athletic transfers.

I have no problem with it at all, and like I said I am 100% confident that academic tranfers happen a lot more than athletic. If I look at addresses of students in my district they are from all over the DM Area and if I looked at those kids that actually play a sport for us it would be miniscule.

By the way, Marble's son is moving from Minneapolis and he is the least talented of Roy's kids. He won't be able to play varsity next year at Valley. He will be on the sophomore team.

I think you will hear a lot more of the Iowa HS Boys Association discussing a 180 day transfer period and not just 90 days in the near future. I know its been a hot topic for them in the past.

Your response:

I never posted anything during the recruiting process itself because I wanted to wait until the decision was made on Dowling of Valley. It is now, so as I said before, I can now post on the topic.

You're a joke, man.

I found some info. you posted on a Jok thread earlier.

Wrong answer. Who did you "hear" this from? Clearly you have no true knowledge of the situation.

He will likely leave Roosevelt, but I don't think it'll be for Valley. I'll leave it at that.

Woodbury is overrated. I have said that a million times before.

Jok is the best player in 2013, and it is not even close. I've also said that a million times before.[/QUOTE]

Good catch. I meant more along the lines of the whole process and how it played out. Initially it appeared to be Dowling and only Dowling as an option. But his visits changed things last week.

No, he did not. This is untrue, and I have talked with parties directly involved that have said its untrue.

I also don't believe that Jeff Horner pursued these players. They had an interest in leaving where they were, and they visited Valley. Horner met with them then.

The players in question didn't decide to leave their school until about a month ago.

Unless I am being lied to, and this person has never lied to me before and they are in a position to know.

Jon, with all due respect, I think my "sources" or "people" when it comes to high school basketball are pretty solid. Why would they admit it? They are taking a lot of heat now anyhow. I heard about this the day they visited Valley. Nobody denied it then, but now that it has came out today they are completely denying it. Also, his visit to Dowling did not go as well as he had hoped because of the differences that are known between a private and public school

Completely different, they were moving around schools in the SAME district. Kids transferring within the district do not always have to sit out the required 90 days like Jok has to do transferring from DMPS to WDM.

I disagree here. This is the same kind of thing, minus the jerseys. Hoover made one of those players sit the full 90 days because there was an "investigation" into how one of them ended up at Hoover.

Good to see Valley has started trying to "buy" recruits by giving them gifts. Didn't realize IAHSAA rules allowed for this.

Really, the recruiting pipeline opening up, again the last thing Horner needs to be doing is "recruiting" players.

From what people have said about Jok's guardian, sounds like he has been shopping Jok and his own kid around to get the best deal for his kid, not Jok. Sounds like Horner is going to play ball with the boosters at Valley, that will be interesting.

Didn't know much about the situation until I spoke with some people tonight. This is exactly the deal and spot on. Now, I don't know why they decided to go to Valley because only Jeff and the guardian know that. But, I do know why they didn't go to Dowling. Dowling wasn't interested in what they wanted. And I am 100% confident in the source I spoke with.

Yeah, the differences of public and private schools. That was it. No, it was because of their names on Valley jerseys:rolleyes:. See my post below if you want the truth.

I'm not going to say much but know a lot.

The Nixon's decision was based on the Roosevelt coach coming back or not. Had the coach moved on (be it on his own doing or the schools), they would still be at Roosevelt. So while they looked at their options outside of the DM Area, their first choice would have been to stay at Roosevelt. At least two other talented players are leaving also...for the same reason.

I think most of us follow sports enough to know that most of the time where where there is smoke...there is fire.

hawkeyestate4ever, I understand and you are usually pretty good with your info. The site must also have a glitch at times, because it tends to change names of the person with the quote at times. Such as the one above which has me quoting. Keep up your good work in the future and keep putting in good words for the Hawks in hopes we can land P. Jok.

Thanks. I noticed that too. I think that way back when this started someone accidentally left off the first part of the quote bracket, and it never got fixed.

Honestly though, I know Mike Nixon, and both Peter Nixon and Big Pete. I've known them for years. The two kids are great kids, and I wish them the best. And I know Horner is a great guy as well. I have no issues or vested interest in anyone involved here. I was simply posting some (I have left MANY details out) of what I have heard from multiple sources over the last 2-3 weeks, and past few months.

I now wish I would not have done that because I am not trying to p*ss anyone off. I wish Mike, P. Nixon and Big Pete nothing but the best, and I know they will do well at Valley.

But remember, these two guys, along with Marble will take away three starting spots from West Des Moines kids who have came up in the program. That will upset somebody. Not to mention it cuts into Abrahamson's shots a great deal.

Valley will be the best team in the CIML, and possibly the best in the state. Should be fun to watch.

I don't need anyone to tell me the truth. I already know it. Believe what you heard from your people, and I will believe what I know from mine. I will go with my guys over yours any day of the week.

The point being made here is - if kids transfer from Roosevelt to Hoover, they MAY not have to sit out 90 days, it is at the discretion of the school since they are transferring IN district. Hoover CHOSE to make the player sit out 90 days. Jok and Nixon have NO choice, they have to sit out 90 days.

Read the article that was posted, it has the DMPS policy in it.

Look, maybe I was a bit harsh but this thing is pi$$ing me off. What is the more likely scenario? His guardian didn't like the difference between public and private schools OR they were not willing to give his kid the pt he wanted? The kid is an average 5 foot 7 player that would be third in line at Valley as a pg. They have a strong junior class coming in and a freshman that started at pg this year. And you use names on the back of jerseys as a reason why they went there? Please.

I never once said that was the reason they went there. But they certainly enjoyed that, as any 16-year-old kid would. There were many factors that played into this decision.

Either way, I really don't care enough to carry this argument over to another day. Good chat, gentlemen. Have a good night.

no doubt - if they were shopping a package deal, there had to be a deal for the package. I doubt Jok needs a deal - schools want him. So how do you convince him (read: guardian) to go to your school? hmmm.......the jersey is cute, is that happened, but certainly not a deciding factor.

You most certainly did and it was a ridiculous. Why the hell would a kid care about a name on the back of a high school jersey? Answer, he doesn't. There are not many factors, there is one factor. And that is very disappointing.
