Jok to Valley

couple of respones here, for one, joks dad died in the sudanese civil war when peter was three. His legal guardian is peter nixons family, , who is also transferring. Also, jol contacted many ciml schools and talked to the coaches. Third, I'm very very sure that roy marbles son, merrick is oming t ovalley.

All I can say is I know whom I spoke with, and I am more than comfortable posting what I did based on that conversation, my experience with the reputation of the person I spoke with and their consistency of honesty through the time I have known them and believe what they tell me as they have never given me reason to not believe them.

Longest sentence in HN history?

Not saying I dont believe you, just thought it was odd that 2 posters that know their stuff in this area have completely different stories.

It's far more exciting to buy into stories like recruiting trips and jersey's. The things I have been told, that I believe, are much more boring.

I have no reason to doubt the jersey story is bogus(doesn't make much sense for one) or that the players came to him. That being said the problem I have is something you stated earlier about him being good for 2 years and then bolting. Let's just put it this way, I don't think bringing these players in will be well received in the community when you have that in the back of your mind. But that is something he is going to have to deal with. Like I said before, if he discussed it with his team and most of them were ok with it then fine. The parents, well that is another story.

I am sure this was NOT discussed with the team. The players and their parents shouldn't call the shots in any program. The fact is Valley graduated 3 starters and 6 of their top 9 players so it is not like the minutes taken by Jok and Nixon will require a reduction in minutes from any returning player. As for players waiting to get playing time how is this different than a player moving into the district like Wellfiger (sp?) did at Waukee this past year?

No one is automatically entitled to playing time because the person in front of them graduated. By this logic no freshman should start because they weren't in high school last year...

I never said Jeff said that. I told him that is what I thought he would be able to do if he wanted to do. I dont know what Jeff's ambitions are beyond the job, other than he wants to be a basketball coach.

Do I really need to explain this to you? Like I said, transfers happen but this is different. This is a couple players going around deciding where they want to go to school based on where they want to play basketball. This absolutely should have been discussed with the team and if it wasn't then that is just asking for problems. Who said anything about being entitled to playing time? You should have to worry about competing against players who are already there and if a transfer happens because of a move then so be it. That isn't what happened here.

I know you didn't say he said that but you stated in your post that you thought this might help get him to that next level faster. I think that is going to be the perception with most people of why he did this whether it is true or not.

Jeff may well be content being a high school coach for a long time like his dad was. I have no idea what his plans are.

So if Mike Nixon moves his family into the Valley district you have no problem with these two players joining the team but since they didn't move it will cause a chemistry problem?

I hope so. Based on what I saw(and heard) last year I think he is a good coach and I hope he stays for awhile. Hawkeyestate's post got me a little worked up.

There is open enrollment in Iowa as long as the school has room, right? For instance my old neighbors lived 400 yards from valley hs and sent their kids to waukee

No. There is open enrollment in Iowa and students can choose to attend different districts. It happens more than most people realize.

That is what I thought, and that would be my burn, as a student or parent of a student who is on the team. I agree with Eddy P, and this is why Dowling took all the flak they did 'back in the day'.

why should i as a tax payer in the WDM school system pay for kids to go to school who are not also tax payers in the WDM school system.

and as a player, i would think that would stink as well. it's not like they transferred in because dad got a new job.

I guess we just see it differently. I have a son who is a freshman at Valley and plays basketball. There were 3 kids transfer in between 8th grade and this year one was a relocation the other two were local kids changing schools. This transfer is only getting the attention because it is at the varsity level with a player that will be recruited to play D1 basketball. But these types of transfers happen all the time.

That's ridiculous.

You're telling me that if my family and I want to move one of my kids to a new school, we should first consult the opinions of a bunch of teenagers?
