Jay Bilas now hates Iowa

Yes they are Nancy and SMU had a worse non-con schedule than Iowa did last year, lost in a weak conference as a 2-seed and had awful losses...sorry Jay you are wrong on this one.

Did they change the names of what they call those games from "play in" to something else? If not then why does the NCAA have to have a "play in" game if you are truly "in"?

Am I crazy, but weren't the last 2 teams in NC State and Xavier? They are the #12 seed playin, so if he thinks SMU should be in, that would in in that spot.

That would only be true if the committee agreed with Bilas. I would assume he thinks NC State/Xavier are more deserving, too.

How dare Jay Bilas change his opinion of the Hawks based on their outstanding play the past 3 weeks. Seems to me that many on this forum were in agreement with Bilas after the Hawks lost their 1st Rd game to NW.

FYI....they have always been called the 'first round' since the expansion.

Iowa is not in the NIT or CBI...so what tournament are they in? Also...in the record book it will go as an NCAA tournament berth.

Technically they aren't play in games...they are the first round games and 60 teams get a bye to the second round.

The crew was comparing NC St, Xavier, & SMU. Jay's criteria was record against top 50. NC St & Xavier had more wins than SMU against the top 50, Iowa had less than SMU.

The OP went a bit overboard saying that Bilas "hates" Iowa. His only comment regarding Iowa is that SMU should have possibly got a bid instead of them based off that criteria.

I still like Bilas. The Hawks tumbled to this point...at least they get a chance to earn it. If they don't, the neysayers get their hay day.

Its been a rough 3 weeks...

4 teams do not constitute a round when the next one has 64. The only reason they're called the first round now is because changing the name and adding power conferences to the mix was the only way to add teams and make people feel any urge to watch them.

And the p*ssing contest continues...

lol really Bilas? wasn't he one that said about 24 hours ago that Iowa would "have to turn down the bid"? Or "only should be worried about how they are playing"

I can't remember if that was him or Lunardi...These experts are so full of it...especially with all of them saying that stuff...and the Hawks are one of the last four in? BS, they don't know jack...

If more teams than not get byes, it shouldn't be considered a round.

But this whole thing is a marketing ploy about tv $$

Iowa is the tournament they are just in a round/portion/whatever that we don't want to be in. Arguing about what level of reward we deserve for playing in said game is already tiresome. Let's get to flipping our **** about how bad Tennessee's going to beat us.

None yet - as far as I can tell. In what other "rounds" of the tournament do equal seeds play each other in their first game? None. Iowa is not an 11 seed yet. They are playing in and attempting to be one.

Again, let me clue you in...no matter how you feel about it. It is the first round and has always been called that. They are an 11 seed in the NCAA tournament. If you want to say they lose and never played in the NCAA tournament then you have the problem.

All the bs about "play in" or first round is just dumb. It isn't like if Iowa loses they will go to the NIT...just because there are a bunch of butthurt unrealistic people who bought in to what the media was saying doesn't mean Iowa is not an NCAA tournament team.

I have said it before but this board is bipolar and is being ruined because of it. Iowa is in the NCAA tournament and plays Tennessee in the first round, just because they played bad to finish the season doesn't take the birth to the NCAA tournament away, it is just not where a lot of people wanted to see them.

Look am I happy they are in the first round...not at all, especially when I see some other teams that aren't, but hey it is what it is. NCAA tournament team and people on here are upset...really?

Hey can we bring back TL, or does Jon just need to start posting the Highlights of the last 10 years here?
Seriously, quit being a bunch of *******, Iowa is in the tournament that means something, not where I had hoped, but they are there, so stfu.

Exactly. If you are going to say that SMU should be in, get the substitute team correct. But, that's the problem with these so-called experts : they are worse flip-floppers than many of our political candidates.

It is the first round and has always been called that.

Actually, the "play-in game" used to be called the Opening Round game when the field went from 64 to 65. The Round of 64 was still the First Round. The switch to First Round for the "play-in games" started when the field went from 65 to 68.

At any rate....GO HAWKS!!!
