ISU showing what happens when you live by the 3

I knew ISU hadnt won a ton against KU lately but I was shocked when ESPN showed the graphic that KU had won 16 out of 17 going into last night. Its laughable that Clown fans consider this a rivalry when they are 1 for their last 18.

Not good, kinda like us and OSU except we enacted revenge on the situation this time.

KU +2 was an easy play last night. KU owns Fred.

This. KU earned me some $ last night. When I saw them at +2, with the way they had been playing, and the fact Kane was coming off an ankle injury I figured it was a pretty good bet. Turns out Kane played much better than I expected, but it didn't matter.

Yep, I waited all day to pull the trigger as the line was dancing around waiting for Kane's status to be announced. Picked up a couple extra points by waiting but I would have still grabbed KU if they were favorites.

Wayne Morgan had a much better record than Fred against KU.

Heck for all of their vaunted reputation as a three point shooting team, the Hawks shoot a better % than the Clones and I don't believe anyone thinks of us as a great 3-point shooting team.

There's a lot of truth to this. Come tourney time ISU will need to get hot shooting in order to make a run. If they aren't knocking down 3's at a high rate then they won't make it past the second round once again. Niang is good, but he's at his best when they are hitting their perimeter shots because it opens him up down low. He becomes somewhat irrelevant when the shots stop falling. Kane is their best option to attack the basket. His health will be key.

I'm completely biased, but in my opinion the way Iowa plays the game will serve them better come tourney time. Their length, depth, and the way they constantly attack the basket is hard for any team to handle. They don't rely on outside shooting to win ballgames. Then when they are hitting their outside shots it's a big bonus.

Anything can happen, but if I were to bet on it I would take Iowa to make a deeper run in the big dance. I would be on cloud 9 if the Hawks ended up playing them again.

I think it's an good question of what is better for the tournament, a team that is more consistent but with a lower ceiling or a team that will have a lot of variance in its performance but can be nearly unbeatable once in a while.

It'd be interesting to see some statisticians do some stochastic modeling of a situation like this.

. Spider's second post in the thread, before you had even replied to him, was about that.

He was replying to someone who posted that sentiment. It wasn't the gist of his first post at all. The first post read more like "teams get hosed in Hilton." The second was "not only that, but then their fans ***** about the refs." There's a difference.

ISU hasn't won a ton against Kansas...ever.

Both of those things can be true, yeah?

We've played exactly zero ranked teams at home, compared to ISU playing 4. I'll certainly take back some of what I've said here if we end up with a combined 45 FT advantage against OSU, MSU, Wisconsin and Michigan when we play them at home.

The one thing you are leaving out of this is that ISU's game is predicated on making 3's. They use the 3 to spread the defense in improve driving lanes. They use the 3 to spread the floor to make it harder to box them out so they can slash in and get offensive rebounds; they need this due to their lack of height. When they aren't hitting 3's, they aren't driving and they aren't getting offensive rebounds. And when they aren't doing these things they shouldn't be getting more free throws than their opponent... and yet they hold an advantage in that stat.

Iowa, on the other hand, does NOT predicate it's game on shooting 3's. Yes, they are a nice extra, but it isn't the focal point of the offense. So we could actually get that much of an advantage at the free throw line because we attack the basket and don't chuck up 3-balls even if we aren't hitting them.

They can be, but I disagree with the first.

Really? It's pretty clear that visiting teams get hosed in Hilton. Moreso than visiting teams usually get hosed in college basketball. I'm not sure why stating that ISU has a superior home court advantage is even considered a disparaging remark.

No one has won a ton against Kansas...ever. They are the 2nd most prolific school in wins all-time and have won over 70% of their games all time.

Indiana is probably the most prolific school in the Big Ten having won 64% of their games all time but Iowa is 32-33 against them.

This surprises me, but would like to even that up this year.

Another amazing tid bit is that Iowa is 3-0 against Kansas. These head to head stats are since the 79/80 season "where both schools were classified as major schools (i.e., Division I or equivalent)"

Iowa State is 23-54 against Kansas (.299 win percentage), the worst record Iowa has had against a Big Ten opponent is Michigan going 24-41 (.369 win percentage). For whatever reason Kansas just has had Iowa States number over the years.

I think there's a difference between having a home court advantage and road teams getting hosed. We aren't ******** when we outshoot opponents from the FT line by a wide margin in Carver.

I would just give it up. People have explained to you about 16 times the difference, and why there is a difference and you just refuse to acknowledge it.

Football game:

Home team runs the ball 60 times and throws it 10.
Away team throws the ball 60 times and runs it 10.

Home team gets called for 3 pass interference penalties.
Away team gets called for 6 pass interference penalties.

TM: Dude....every team gets a home field advantage.
