ISU Fact - Talk About Damn Shocking!

Listening to Jon and Steve's last podcast just now at work. They stated that Iowa State NOW HAS the 3rd largest stadium in the Big 12 conference. Honestly, I don't know if that is impressive or kind of sad. Just blew me away though.

my vote is sad. it's barely 60k. Being 3rd at that capacity is just sorry for a power 5 conference.

That's my thinking. I can't believe there aren't more in that conference. I don't think we fans in the BIG realize not all college stadiums seat 70-100,000 fans. This is nothing new to us.

It helps when programs like Texas A&M (100k+), Nebraska (87k), and Missouri (70k+) exited the conference.

ISU should hire Chizik again. Last time they hired him he won the national championship 4 years later.

Cyclone fans beat their chests over the size of the stadium. They're convinced recruits are going to be flocking to Ames. Let's wait a couple of years and see if the increased stadium size will lead to increased win totals. For now I'm skeptical.

Surprised this is now news? that was announced back in 2013 when the plans were revealed. I was surprised as well thinking there were larger stadiums. However, when you lose Nebraska and TAMU, that's two that would have been larger than Jack Trice.

You guys may still hate JTS or will at least say you hate it, but it really was quite the improvement being there on Saturday. Hope Hawk fans that go to the game have a good time.

I'm pretty sure Hawk fans attending the game will be having a great time watching an Iowa victory

B1G TEN capacities: Eight stadiums larger than ISU.

Michigan - 109,921
Penn State - 106,572
Ohio State - 102,329
Nebraska - 85,831
Wisconsin - 80,321
Michigan State - 75,005
Iowa - 70,585
Purdue - 62,500
Illinois - 60,600
Maryland - 54,000
Rutgers - 52,454
Minnesota - 50,805
Indiana - 50,180
Northwestern - 47,130

Avg. capacity - 72,000

BIG XII Avg. capacity - 61,500

I wonder what the population differences in the states are. Probably pretty significant.

While Maryland & Rutgers lower the average significantly, there are probably as many TV sets in the New York & Washington D.C. metropolitan areas as there are in the entire BIG XII. Now throw in Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, etc. Outside of Texas, the BIG XII is in small population states. If Ohio State can continue to dominate, the B1G TEN will break the bank after the 2016 season. The amount of the next TV contract will blow everybody away. It will be phenomenal! It will be a license to print money!
