Isaiah Moss

Not to rain on the parade after a good win last night, but what's up with Moss? He starts and then only plays 5 minutes the whole game? This seems to be the pattern lately, start and then sit for most of the 2nd half.

If Fran doesn't trust him due to bad shots or turnovers (neither of which jumps out to me as problems) then why have him in the starting line up? Why not start Williams or Baer or even Ellingson? I just think this seems like a strange way to manage a young player's confidence.

Has Fran ever been asked about his usage of Moss?

I had some of the same questions

Fran wouldn't get asked that question by the medai

Fran gets asked questions like, "How does Peter make 22 free throws?"

Moss was playing pretty poorly, along with the rest of the team last night - so he got yanked. He got put back in the game and then immediately let the guy he was guarding him dribble right on past him and score. He got yanked again. Fran's playing guys that are going to give him the best chance to win games, as late that's not Moss. He's hit a wall, most do - he'll show flashes again.

His defense has been really bad as of late. I understand struggling to hit shots but giving up on the other end is frustrating to watch

Since the whole team sucks at defense, I'm thinking it's his effort. With Bohannon it's a quickness issue. With Jok it's a fatigue issue. With some others it's a youth issue. I'm guessing Fran can let that slide but he won't let pure lazy effort slide.

Wagner also started and only played 10 minutes. Right now we just have too many guys that are in the rotation so people get cut out. Unfortunately for Moss he gets left out because Jok & Baer are two of our top players.

He's a freshman and is staring at tremendous playing time and opportunity over the next 3 seasons... if he's upset about not playing enough this year, he has to see how big a piece he is going forward.

Our freshmen have hit the wall recently IMO. I suspect they will all play much better when the calendar turns to March...get their 2nd wind. Jok is getting a little healthier game by game.

Our postseason will almost certainly be decided in the BTT. Win 4 in 4 days and it's the NCAA. And it could very well be that we need 2 or 3 wins to make the NIT.

With Jok graduating Moss will have every opportunity to have his role significantly increased next yr. The depth of this team being what it is just lends itself to going with who's playing better. Moss got off to such a terrible start and then once brought back in didn't have 'it' He's a good free throw shooter I'm kinda surprised he didn't play in OT some. The thing about Moss if I were him I'd worry about is McCaffery. Will he come in and take a bite out of his PT? Depending on how good the two of them are seems to be what'll decide that. It'd be hard for good ole Dad to be objective with that. I mean if they are close or tied his kid would get the nod right? I know we are a ways away from that yet but it's a scenario that'll have to play itself out

Agreed. If he transfers he sits out and loses a year of eligibility. If he stays at Iowa he has a good chance at starting and having a big role on some good teams the next few years.

Moss is like a number of guys on this team....most of the guys on this team. How well and how much they develop over the next 18-24 months will determine the trajectory of Fran's program.

The coaches need to earn their money and develop the raw ability on this roster.

I agree, the nice thing is at least we can look back at the last 4 seasons and see that Fran has done exactly that with young talent he's brought to IC.
