Is Iowa basketball in trouble already?

Apples and Oranges. Alford didn't take a chance on a kid who messed up from another school. He gave his own recruit a second chance. I am ok with both as you have to give kids second chances AND you have to toe the line a bit if you want to be successful

Why didn't ISU try to get Dominique Douglas to play football. Looks like a similar resume.

"White was suspended last fall after an incident at the Mall of America. He later pleaded guilty to theft and disorderly conduct.

White left Minnesota in February after being charged with trespassing in connection to an alleged theft of a laptop computer from a university dorm."

I guess in Ames, now, the word will be lock up the computers and hide the cows and sows.

I say this because ISU just picked up Royce White (#19 recruit out of HS) today. They now will have Elgin Cook (#12 SF, Top 100), PSU transfer Chris Babb and a few other impressive kids for 2011 season.

I look at Iowa's recruits for 2011...nothing!! Don't get me wrong here, Basabe seems like a great pickup but Melvin Ejim for the Clones has been just as impressive in the Metro City league here in Des Moines. ISU has a bunch of tall guys this season and our biggest guy is 6'7"!! ISU/Hoiberg are putting together a nice nucleus of talent already. McCaffery needs to start getting some big commitments soon from the talent rich Iowa classes of 2011 & 2012, otherwise, he and the staff are going to have tough sledding against the Clones and in the Big Ten. Hoiberg's recruiting has been a B+ so far, McCaffery gets a C. But the coaching experience is the big thing. Hoiberg has nice talent but can he coach them?

Ryno, why didn't you just title this thread "Time for Fran to go"?

I am now convinced Hawkeyeryno is IAryno on the DM Register website posting ridiculous comments in all of the ISU articles comments section

NO! We play them once a year. Win or lose they are not our whole season. IOWA and ISU are in different conferences. I don't care who they get. Fran will do the job.

I added a couple of things for you, that team with Stinson and Blaylock wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either and you are trying to make it sound like they got upset by UNC. There were a lot of teams that year that could have beaten ISU in the second round other than "eventual Champion UNC". Minnesota almost did it in the first round.

When is Iowa's last win in an NCAA game again? Creighton would be my guess IIRC.

I agree that the OP is going overboard on how this impacts Iowa. Not much, would be my guess.

I'm still trying to figure out how ISU's success or failure is directly tied to Iowa.

We're actually recruiting A LOT of the same players, even on the east coast.

No doubt I think Iowa fans do not give Iowa State staff enough credit, they will definitely be able (and are) recruiting. But to not see how White is a risk is ludicrous. Of course he could pay off huge and Iowa State could be great.

I wonder how a player like Uthoff views this if he would be excited about the opportunity to play with White or If Hoidberg taking poor character players would hurt their chances.

If we were in the MVC or Horizon League or whatever league Siena was in I might second your vote...

So you are saying that Cartwright, Marble, Basabe and McCabe are not Big Ten talent?

Or are you saying that Jordan Railey, Royce White and Melvin Ejim are better players for next season than the ones that are playing for the Hawks?

I was just sitting at work when the announcement hit the radio that Royce White was a Clone...and the very first thing through my mind was "Fran must go"...it's pretty obvious now...

The only way ISU's success will impact Iowa is in state recruiting. It's not essential to win that battle to have a successful program. In football I would agree with that arguement. But not in basketball. Some of our best teams have been without a whole lot of Iowa talent. And more Illinois and Michigan talent.

It is possible for both ISU and Iowa to have success at the same time.

I am NOT this other Ryno!! I wouldn't post anything on that crap newspaper!! Don't you have to pay for that anyway?

However, I just looked him up and he is delusional. I can guarantee you that is NOT me. If I could post there I would post on Iowa articles. It is annoying that you assume that.

I am just a passionate Hawkeye fan and absolutely HATE listening to Cyclone fans clamor about every freaking thing positive that happens to them. And it sucks because they are recruiting better than Iowa with a coach who has NEVER coached!! That is frustrating! I know Fran has it in him just annoyed with giddy Cyclone fans currently! Perhaps they get so excited about everything because they have never truly enjoyed success???

Sorry if you arent but the similarities are pretty strong....lots of exclamation points, very excited, over the top, etc. A lot of your posts are based around ISU bball so i just connected the dots. If you arent that troll then I apologize

I still have to ask - why have you started mulitple threads today that are based around ISU basketball?

Have you ever seen the movie Chicken Little? So ISU got a kid with a rap sheet who will more than likely never play for them - so what? They play each other once a year. Chill out, and switch to decaf.

Because I needed to hear from fellow Hawkeye fans on this situation. I work with Cyclone fans (great job, terrible environment). It is therapeutic to post on here.

Yeah, and it is ******* me off. I just thought it was a big sports story, considering it is July. Should I be surprised an ISU fan thinks this guy is great? Not really, I hear about ISU EVERY FREAKING DAY! I apologize for bringing this up but it is a little slow in the sports world right now and wanted to talk about something and viewing the posts it would seem others are mildly interested as well.

It was common knowledge in Westmont that PP had troubles, so yes, SA did take a chance on him and it BLEW UP!!! PP should NEVER have recieved a second chance at IOWA, NEVER ! The should be no room for thug behaviour, plain and simple.

Dude are you in the panic mode all the time? Have you not read what FM has said about what he has been focusing on in regards to recruiting and building the program? How did you make through KFs first couple of seasons?
