Iowa v Illannoy is an NIT play in game

There are a lot of teams out there with good records that will not make the NCAA's.
I think Iowa was always a longshot for the NIT.
If Iowa beats Ill,and MSU, still not likely, probably.
Beating MSU would be a huge upset,so maybe.
I think we needed to beat NW,Minny, then Michigan, and get to 19 wins to be a serious NIT contender. The dream died on sat. CBI is better than nothing...go for it,Fran.

interesting site. important to note it has NW listed as a one seed in the NIT and no other bten team other than Iowa on the bubble. that confirms my thinking that 6-12 in conference records for MN and Illannoy are deal breakers.

I wonder how their opinion changes with NW in the dance?

You need your eyes checked. Illinois is listed as a 3 seed solidly in and Minnesota is listed as a 7 seed on the bubble in.

Dear God I do. I was reading that from the ******* on my smart phone. Damn those tiny letters.

I dunno, I can see Illannoy in with a win over Iowa. I can't see MN in with a loss against NW. 6-13 in B10 play should NOT be rewarded with an NIT bid.

Spank, why do you think Iowa needs to win 2 if Duff's senario plays out and we go 1-1 and NW goes to the dance? One more win is going to matter to the NIT whether they take a B1G team or not? I gotta side with the NIT guru on this one.

Here's the thing. Iowa could get 1 and be in. You never know.
In fact, if they lose 1st round, the NIT may already have their minds made up and are taking Iowa regardless.

I don't know too much (read: anything) about the selection process for the NIT except they take the conf champs that fail to win their tourney, they now allow sub .500 schools to get in, 32 teams total.

Maybe Iowa's resume is good enough already for the NIT.

Personally, I think Iowa needs 2.
If NW beats MN, I'm not sure they are in. I know Lunardi disagrees, but NW's resume is ugly. They probably are though.

So, in conclusion, I really have no idea what it truly takes for Iowa in the NIT. I do think they are locked into the CBI if they want it.

I honestly cannot see the NIT selecting the Illini...they are not in a cave, and they know that Weber is as good as fired. There is the stink of death around that program right now,and that is not what the NIT can be looking for right now.
Unless the Illini beat both Iowa and MSU,I doubt they are selected.

Iowa, with Fran as a rising coach, is a more happy-happy selection. Fran spent much time on the East Coast,so he has friends out there...never hurts.

Big 10
Likely NIT Bound Right Now: Minnesota Golden Gophers
NIT Bubble: Iowa Hawkeyes, Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois and Iowa both have a ton of losses this year, and neither one is exactly on firm ground right now. The Golden Gophers still have a respectable resume and should be selected for the NIT if they don’t make it to the dance, but they are going to be a hard sell if this bubble shrinks down to say just 22-24 at large teams or so.

Reading through the "experts" on NIT - it looks like the Bracket Project and NITology are the most reliable/used of the sites.

Both have Iowa out right now.

If NW beats Minnesota, and Iowa beats ILL, then I think NW goes to the NCAA, and I like our chances at the NIT. Anything less, and I think Iowa goes to the CBI with NW and maybe ILL in the NIT. Just a gut feeling.

I don't get the love for Minnesota in this write up. I have went through Minnesota's schedule and granted they do have wins over decent mid majors but their wins over USC, DePaul, and Virginia Tech just don't cut it for me. Their best win was at Indiana but then they turned around and got blown out against them at home. They are 2-7 over their last 9 games and those 2 wins are against Nebraska. If they take Minnesota then you are taking quantity over quality. If they go 1 and done in the BTT I don't think they deserve to go anywhere.
