Iowa v Illannoy is an NIT play in game

Yeah, I agree. Iowa is a better team than Minnesota.

Maybe this has already been discussed (didn't read the entire thread), but what do you think happens if Minny beats NW, and Iowa beats ILL? Presumably, NW could miss the NCAA and go to the NIT. So who else goes to the NIT between Iowa, Illinois and Minny? Who gets snubbed?

That's where it gets hairy.

NW would get in over Iowa in that case. Then it's nasty between Iowa and MN. One would be presumably left out.... Iowa swept them, has a far better L10 and has better quality wins / record vs Top 50, finished ahead of them in conf. Minnesota has more wins overall.

I still think Iowa and NW get the bids in that scenario.

I think so too. But, again, I have no idea on NIT selection stuff. There's too much fluidity going on to make an accurate prediction without seeing what else happens above in the NCAA and in conf tourneys.

I don't think anyone that watches B1G bb could say MN is better than Iowa.

That's the way I feel, too. I would be pretty peeved if MN goes to the NIT over Iowa in that scenario.

Most of what I have seen is Northwestern solidly in since they beat Iowa and I wonder if they can absorb a loss in the first round of the BTT and still make the tournament. Northwestern really benefits this year to a strong conference and a weak field of bubble teams.

But to answer your question directly I think in that scenario Iowa gets the snub (assuming they lost to MSU in round 2). A 17-16 record with a horrible RPI is what might keep Iowa out of the NIT.

The fact that MN held on to the NCAA bubble for so long after it was obvious that they didn't deserve it tells me a lot about how MN is over-rated.
