Iowa State Lost

And ISU couldn't hit a three. They were 6-24 from three point land as a team. Baylor had more fouls, more rebounds, more steals, less turnovers and generally got to most of the 50-50 balls.

Proves once again: if you live by the three you die by the three. (Of course, ISU doesn't play much defense either)
If the clowns played defense half as hard as cyfans defend the team they'd be unbeaten.

You would have said the same about the Big 12 in Football. The conference beat no one of note in their non conference football schedules but for some reason was anointed as the best conference. They were horrible in their bowl games. I think you will see the same in the NCAA tourney.

Baylor and Okie state non conference schedules were a joke. Baylor RPI is 7! No fricking way.

No I wouldn't and didn't say that about the Big12 in football this year. They eyeball test said differently all year long, and that it was over rated at the beginning of the year, and it played out that way.

ISU really surprises me with 7 losses. With all that talent there is no way they should have that many losses. Either Freddie is doing a poor coaching job or there is another problem. The times i have watched them they look a little selfish.

Exactly. The only team with more NBA draft picks on its roster than ISU that I can see is Kentucky. One of those teams is 28-0 and the other isn't.

Have watched them quite a bit, too. When they are rolling, they play great team ball. When they are struggling, they start jacking up shots. If somebody hits, they calm down and start playing together. Last night, nobody could hit late and they were chucking up impossible shots and turning it over. They need a leader to just pull it out, calm them down and attack, but that's not their style.

ISU is one of those teams that has the scoring capability to make a special run, but because of their suspect defense they could easily get knocked out of the tourney early if they have one game where they aren't hitting as many shots as they usually do. It's the definition of a team that lives and dies by the three even though Cyclone fans will argue that isn't the case. They've lived very successfully by the three ball as a whole this season, but there's plenty of evidence that shows what happens to them when they aren't shooting as well as usual. Their defense isn't good enough to keep them in close games against legit opponents if they aren't lighting up the scoreboard.

So much of their tourney success will depend on match-ups. That's the case with every team in the tournament though.

Really bummed after yesterday. ISU is one of the best 2 pt % teams in the country and uses the 3 ball to open things up. They actually aren't a very good 3 point team this year. They really let baylor's 3 barrage demoralize them.

We know that feeling Bryce. Had a team back in December do that to us. Can't remember who though. Michigan state did that too. Illinois had a stretch on us as well. Starks couldn't miss. Averages 7 points/game. I think the clones are a sweet 16 lock though. After that it'll be tough.

The threat they poise from deep is why they are one of the best 2 pt % teams in the country though Bryce. When you have 4-5 guys who are a legit threat from long range it opens everything up down low because you can spread out the floor. Therefore when the long ball isn't falling like it usually does the team is more prone to losing.

It was a trap game. They got the 2 big road wins and then come home to play a team that is better than either of the teams they had just beaten IMO. No one is going to want to play the Cyclones in the NCAA...or the conference tournament for that matter. Also, you are getting KSU at the perfect time...trap game for them after the big win over KS. You will feel better tomorrow at 5:15.

Something that John said in a recent podcast has stuck with me. He said that every time Iowa State has had a chance under Hoiberg to raise their profile, they have. If we accept this as fact, then what do they need to accomplish to keep this true? Conference champion? Final four?

What does this even mean? Wouldn't beating UConn and getting to the elite eight have raised their profile more than losing to them?

ISU plays the modern form of NBA ball which is to have 4 people on the perimeter and a semi-post presence. You work around for one or two passes if that then you chuck a three ball. Most NBA shooters are not that great, then the game becomes a rebounding and transition game in NBA.

Nothing I like in the NBA game now, lots of great athletes but only a few teams play good basketball.

ISU plays the same way, 4 guys chucking from 3 land.

Exactly. Spread out the floor. Hit some buckets to create some space and then let the slashers get to the rim for easier shots and creation. Fred has recruited very well for this style. I give them credit for that, but the fact remains when they aren't hitting their outside shots it makes them very beatable.

Cleveland, Atlanta and about 8 teams in the West it is a little more than few. The college product isn't exactly great right now.

Nobody wants to take it to the hole anymore!

Where's fairfax and all the cyfan trolls that like to hang out here after a win or Iowa loss. Where else but with the other girls hiding out. Always the cowards. Next time they show up Im going to have to remind them about it.

Well I am sort of guessing how many good teams play in the NBA since I can barely stand to watch them for more than a few minutes at a time.

Yep great to see Atlanta having a great run, I do admire San Antonio and Pop, and any team that Don Nelson coached.

Matt Thomas, the guy they've crowed about the last 2 or 3 games shot 1-6. Are they ready to run him out of town again. Lol at cyfans. They think they're a great bunch of loyal fans but if a player has a bad game they want to cut their head off and get rid of him. Earlier this year all they could do was talk about Jones and how great he is. Now they hope he never plays again.

I'm an Iowa State fan but I enjoy these boards (for the most part). What's up? As far as posters go, you seem super obsessed with Iowa State.
