If you were Beathard's parent, would you encourage him to transfer?

Back to the OP, I wouldn't encourage him to transfer. But if he came to me and said he wanted to... I'd support him 100%. Chances of him ever starting are near zero, only a serious injury to Jake would bring that.

As for Weisman... Please, he's one of the toughest guys on the team. To suggest he's giving less than 100% is foolishness.

I hope he stays as Iowa needs a good backup QB. He is one injury from playing and if nothing else he can start his senior year. I remember Mark Vlasic held the clipboard for 3 years as Chuck Long's backup and still went on to play in the NFL.

Let's not forget that Chuck Long was granted a 5th year and if he had not been, Vlasic would have been a 2 yr starter. But, Chuck got the 5th year and Iowa had a magical season.

I hope Beatherd's parents are able to provide the perspective that football is a lot of fun but that he should be focused on his intellectual and social development with the goal of putting himself in the position to find employment doing something other than playing football. If he is on-track to do that at the University of Iowa he should stay enrolled regardless of how well football is going for him. Disrupting his development and transferring to an inferior insitution for the primary purpose of playing football is a bad idea.

None of us know what the conversations with the coaches/QBs were like last year, the performance on the practice field, or anyone's understanding of the offense was. Therefore none of us can sit here and say someone could "easily have said they have no confidence in me".

Trust me... I'm not trying to flame ya, but I am not sure how this thread has gone 7 pages deep. Ooffda.
So, you're a poster that perceives a slight against KF and his staff (strange, since this is a thread about the best interests of Beathard) in this thread... OOFFDA to you.

How crazy would it be if sometime in the 1st half Saturday, Beathard comes strolling onto the field for 1 series full of read options and maybe a deep ball? Everyone in the stadium would be in shock.

This, but in the 2nd half when the offense disappears/gets shut down with ease.

I'm still under the impression that CJ is the type of player that could put up huge #'s in the college game, and Jake is a QB that could succeed in the NFL.

I think there is some myth that KF's loyalty is so blind he would forego winning ball games. KF puts the best players out there to win ball games. Is KF old school and loyal to a fault? Idk.

I wonder if there were the same arguments going on with Jake Christensen and Ricky Stanzi. Jake was ranked higher than Ricky coming out of high school by Rivals. Jake was a 4 star QB ranked #2 in 2005, which included Mark Sanchez. Ricky was a 3 star QB ranked #11 in 2006. Kirk was loyal to Jake as long as he could be, but the pro-style offense that Iowa ran was not a good fit for a dual-threat QB like Jake.

The reason I said 1st half was so they would have time to run it again later if it worked. But with our 2nd half troubles that would work too.

The only 2 threats that Jake had were throwing it at the receiver's ankles or getting sacked.

He will never see the field for his whole career as long as Ferentz is coach. Unless his parents pay the buyout in the offseason he has to transfer.

No, I would encourage him to understand that OL can't block for more than a three count and that there are underneath routes ;)

4/16. There is no QB controversy, but he has talent
