If you were Beathard's parent, would you encourage him to transfer?

He needs to stay. When JR wins the Heisman next year, he'll jump early to the pros and become the next Joe Montana. Then CJ will have 2 years to be the starter, where he too will win the Heisman and become the next Jake Ruddock in the NFL.

Not with KF as our coach, even if he thought he was better and should be starting, he never will as long as Jake is healthy....we have been there done that before.

Wrong. Stanzi TOOK the job from Christensen. Everyone can try and say it was KOK that "pushed", but the fact remains, KF is the one who pulled the trigger there. That, or KOK, with no ability for KF to veto...in which case...GD is the one pulling the strings now...er...

In other words, there is ZERO evidence, at least from "insiders", that Beathard SHOULD have won the job, nor any evidence that he has done anything to warrant getting the job now.

This is not unlike a company where two senior vice presidents are vying for the top job when the president or CEO finally leaves for whatever reason. One of them will get the job, one will not. While the one who wasn't promoted may still love the company and the people, he or she isn't willing to wait around until the job comes open again and decides to ply their trade elsewhere.

Nothing personal. Just bidness.

Same with sports where thanks to NCAA eligibility rules, you only have four or five years in which to showcase your talents on a national stage.

Why post this garbage?!! This argument could be made by EVERY scholarship player who isn't starting at EVERY school in America. Why try to plant seeds in the minds of kids and their friends who may read a board like this. Go post something like this in the Ohio State board about one of their 5* guys playing backup.

First it is an 85 man roster and I am all about playing the best 22 regardless of what string they start at.

Second tell me where Weismann was last year on the depth chart at tailback to start the season and get back to me.

You might want to re-think your post as well.

Weisman moved up the depth chart because of injuries.

The coaches see these kids everyday in practice. They know who can do what. Because you watched Mike & Mike and kill it on the PS3 doesn't mean you should be making the personnel decisions. I don't want to use a word like "asinine" so I won't.

You go to your room until you can control your temper young man. Looks like bed time will be a little earlier tonight.

CJ knows that he is one big hit away from taking over, and maybe never relinquishing the position. It is not like Jake is built like a Mack truck...he is skinny. With all the practices, hopefully bowl practices, and spring ball and summer camp...CJ could win that job next year. Jake is tough, and smart, but lacks a big arm, so their is an opening for CJ, if he improves a bit. Agree with those who said we really would benefit if CJ got in some games the rest of the way...either in mopup time or rallying the Hawks in Lincoln. I think he values his education and teammates, and will stick it out. Now, the frosh from Texas? He could bail, if Scheel looks like the heir apparent.

I hope that Beathard sticks around. I think he has a lot of potential and, as others have pointed out, he is only an injury away from playing. If he chooses to go somewhere else so he can play, I can understand that. Ultimately, he needs to follow his heart - whether that means staying at Iowa or going elsewhere.

The discussion about Weisman slacking off because he is the starter is just silly. Everything that I have heard is exactly the opposite. He is working harder than ever. Teams are preparing for him now, though, and it shows in his stats.

I know we all keep hearing about how loyal KF is to his older players, and perhaps that is true, but I am kind of doubting that he would play people that he doesn't think give him the best chance to win. I suspect that he places a high value on playing experience (as, honestly, he probably should) and that is why we rarely see younger, potentially more athletic players take the starting spots.

The truth doesn't cease to be the truth... just because it's been spoken before. On the contrary...once it's recognized and still fails to be acted upon, it warrants repetition.

You make it sound like people here can actually effect the outcome of all this. I don't think that we do.

Nope. I would tell my kid, i believe if you try harder you can win the job. You are playing d1 and that means competition.
Being more athletic than Rudock won't buy Beathard any favors from KF in KF's game manager's offense. If Beathard wants to display his physical abilities, he'd better go play somewhere else since Rudock has the game manager's thing down.

That's right.. KF does. .. Beathard's athleticism won't endear himself to KF. And that, IMO, really sucks... If you blame Iowa's offense, you'd better look to KF, first.

Does anyone wonder where the notion that the ferentz posters are considered silly and childish has started? I submit this as your first piece of evidence. When you have this guy on your side you are starting in a deep, deep hole.

By the way drew tate and brad banks say hi silly boy.

If tell him to poison his drink with arsenic every day until he cannot compete. Then....jobs his beeeeoches

The only way I'd tell him to transfer is if he could a scholly at a school better than Iowa and still be the backup. Iowa hasn't produced a QB who has played in an NFL regular season game bince when? Was it Mark Vlasic? Unless you are destined to win the Heisman and play QB in the NFL liek RGIII and are stuck behind Andrew Luck, you should just take your spot on the bench and get your free education and the jersey chasers that come along with it. No sense in getting rolled over and messing up your squash unless you've got a huge payday on the other side. And no, selling variable annuities in Neck Moines ain't a huge payday.

Troll post calling Beathard a Heisman candidate and NFL starter in 3...2...1

Beathard obviously has the talent to be a Heisman candidate and a multi-year NFL starter. He is only letting Jake start right now because he doesn't want to be Jacksonville's first round pick...

What I straining to say is: Iowa will lose many games 'cause the D gives up too many points. Iowa will lose many games 'cause the O doesn't score enough points (strictly KF's game manager offense's fault). Having an offense that scores more points gives Iowa a better chance to win. Don't you guys want Iowa to win more games? Huh?

You realize, don't you, that every college football player in every division is eligible to be considered for the Heisman? So technically, yes, Beathard is a Heisman candidate, as is every other player on the Iowa football team.
