If, on the 1% chance Iowa can somehow beat OSU in the Shoe,

'member that time we had a team that was probably a little better than this team and it lost by 39 points against Michigan in the Big Ten title game? Great opening drive that resulted in 3 points and no more scoring the whole way. Maybe people betting Iowa forget about that game.
I'd be ecstatic to see our offense put points on the board on the opening drive. Don't see it happening but would be thrilled to see any signs of life on that side of the ball that isn't the direct result of our defense or special teams getting them into scoring position.

While I understand the concept of sometimes you have to burn the house down to save it, I don't see that here. If Iowa somehow makes the 7 10 split and wins this game, it would change the outlook on the season. If we can beat OSU at the Shoe, we can and should beat anyone. Maybe such a win is the boost that a young OL needs to gel. We could win the very weak West again and end up in Indy. That would be quite the turnaround in fortunes, but I recall losing by 42 points in Arizona one year and still winning 10 games. Strange shit happens.

Again, no one thinks this will happen, especially me, but I don't see the logic in rooting against it just to build a stronger case for firing the coach's son.

Go Hawks!!

We only lost by 37 to Arizona State. That team also had Drew Tate and Matt Roth. No disrespect to the current team, but we ain't got Drew Tate or Matt Roth clones on this team.

What if we win, but the defense scores all the points. Does Brian still get breathing room? Do we just go ahead and erect a statue of Phil Parker in front of the stadium?

We clearly don't have Drew Tate on this team. I would sell one of kids to get him.

But, Jack Campbell is every bit the stud that Roth was. And, by the time they come through here, Aaron Graves and Cooper Dejean will be NFL caliber studs too. Not to mention Merriweather and Justin Jacobs. This defense is loaded with talent. Roth was a stud. No doubt.

But alas, no Drew Tate is a pretty big fucking difference. No argument there.

He gets breathing room whether he scores 30 or scores 0. His Dad is not going to do a damn thing this season. He has made that clear. Whether KF finds BF another job in the offseason is still somewhat of an open question.

Jack Campbell is a linebacker. Notice I didn't list Greenway and Hodge, who were also on that 2004 team. The LBs ain't a problem on this team. But even with this shittastic offense a Matt Roth caliber d-lineman would have this team sitting at 5-1 right now.

Iowa beating OSU is never a bad thing. And it's not Iowa winning that people see as a bad thing. Its the other side of the equation that in the event Iowa wins then BF is totally off the hook and the all that is wrong with our offense gets swept under the rug. Your right that it's never a bad thing to want to beat the best team in the conference, however in order for change to ever happen there has to be outcomes indicating changes need to be made. In this case it's the losses. No one wants Iowa to lose. They want changes to occur.

So losing to Ohio State means changes are going to happen. Ok, I'm in...I hope Iowa gets destroyed!

You all don't actually believe this, right? Change is going to happen when Capt'n Kirk is damn good and ready. They did win 10 games last year, perhaps you didn't know that?

My buzz is totally killed because I remember the last time Iowa played tOSU and Brian called a very dynamic game; breaking every tendency we had. And at that time, the team wasn't looking good. For a brief second, I thought... they figured it out, you got all these TE's use them. And then, poof.... One shot of what could be... into dust. Never to be seen again. If for whatever reason, Iowa found themselves a win because they, for one day, had a real offensive scheme... I know down deep in my heart, it would be a one time occurrence and the team would revert back to what they are on offense. Brian could be coaching for his job in this one. In a very Steve Alford like thing, you only have to win some big games to keep your job.
our offense didn’t all of a sudden click during the bye week lol

Even if it’s a massacre this Saturday it wi t end his career. It’s next week’s game that should he lose that we be the end for Brian. If not for Brian, then for Barta. To lose to Northwestern would be the death nel. The would be the end for the coach, or his son, or the AD.

Because of his lack spine Gary would step down and fall on his sword rather then tell Kirk and Brian that one or both of them have to go.

The only way that the boosters could support keeping those guys around if we lose to both Ohio State and Northwestern is if the boosters are girly men………….. if you know what I mean? They go to the games to have a hot dog and enjoy the band.

I anticipate a solid first half for the D

We will have to rely on OSU turnovers to score at best a FG in the game

Toward the Middle of the third quarter, fatigue will set in

Then it just might be off to the races for the buckeyes

Buckeyes have a Punishing defense

The Horseshoe is one of the most, if not the, most intimidating stadiums in America

The Horseshoe at night is a nightmare when the fans start stomping in the upper stands

While the two long-running Big Ten programs have played sporadically in recent years, the Hawkeyes have proven to be a tough cover job. Buckeye fans certainly haven’t forgotten the season-crushing 2017 disaster in Iowa City. Ohio State has not covered a spread in its last four games of the series, dating back to its last cover in 2006.

“We will have to rely on OSU turnovers to score at best a FG in the game” lol

If Ohio State turns the ball over on all of their possessions on their side of the fifty yard line then we might get two field goals. :). LMAO!!!

We Hawkeyes fans scoff and laugh at the face of death!

I think your pretty close on thinking our defense might keep this close for almost three quarters until they get gassed. At that point we should let our offense take over and play defense. They surely will be well rested. ;). also if there is a person who can surely eff up an offense it is Brian.

I expect OSU to begin the first quarter focusing largely on running the ball. They want to learn to pound the rock this year..based on an interview Day gave after the ND Game. And Iowa would be the test for them to see where they stand.

Once they've done enough they'll mix it up

Not sure we can really play the officiating card when our offense has been our own worst enemy in 2 of the 3 losses. Michigan just flat out beat us.
Iowa St game I put on officials and Iowa offense almost equally though. The Michigan officiating was horrible...maybe even worse than the clown game, but might not have been the difference maker like the blown touchdown (so called fumble on the goal line) when the back clearly broke the plane.

All this said, Iowa most definitely needs a clean called game....even a few breaks....because God knows the Buckeyes with their deep pockets, all their collection of All-Star Blue Chip players, don't need them.

Iowa also must win the turnover battle to have a chance in this game. Iowa needs defensive scores of course. Iowa is also going to need to string together a few first downs if a drive does not result in points. We definitely do not want to give Ohio St short-field after short-field. Iowa defense is good, but it is not that good and we don't want to clearly have them worn out by the 3rd quarter.

Iowa must score when in the red-zone, every fucking time in this game. No fucking stupid reverses, or QB sack for -15-20 yards because Brian is trying to be to cute or Petras wore his cement shoes yet again (If Brian wants to be cute, think lateral, not horizontal). Receivers need to make catches that junior high players would reel in. O-Line needs to punish their d-line (freaking grow up Iowa O-line, yes I'm challenging you if you somehow are bored and reading this) and have our backs wear them out. Step up to the plate O-line, block, do your job, protect your shell-shocked QB and give your capable backs something to work with.

In the end, it is likely a blood-bath, but what still gives me some hope:

1. Iowa's defense may be the best Ohio St faces outside of the playoffs
2. Taylor's punting
3. 2 Weeks to rest up and Brian Ferentz hearing just how much he has sucked as an offensive coordinator. The last time he went against these Titians, he found Zeus's bolt of lightening/Thor's hammer and chopped/battered theses son of a bitches down. It should be noted that was a better offensive team than this one with 2 NFL quality tight-ends.....and Urban probably just got done doing coke off a stripper the night before while telling his wife he was hard at work at the office preparing for the Iowa game.

And I'm personally all for winning this game if by some miracle we can. It would be the talk of college football world...forget the Tennessee win over Alabama. Maybe Petras would grow two balls and this team would have a renewed since of faith with the rest of their West Division Games. Ohio St wins are so rare, if they happen don't take them for granted.

Honestly, I would throw every fucking thing at Ohio St...just like that last time....short of if Iowa is in the red zone and it is 2nd and 2.....get the first down conventionally then (again no stupid reverse or the like that gets off schedule). Attack, attack, attack should be the motto. Really, shouldn't it be that way most of the time?

I mean the alternative is to turtle up and lose by 35 plus......if we are going to lose...go all out on these assholes.

Hot Damn

Why? I don't think there's any chance we win the game, but on the weird bizarre chance they somehow did, it would be a much needed shot in the arm for a program circling the toilet.
Because I think it would unjustifiably give Brian a life jacket that he doesn’t deserve. He’s shown by now that he doesn’t have the goods, and if the Hawks were to somehow win (like you said it’s moot because it’s not going to happen), Kirk and Co. now have an excuse to give him more leash.

This Ohio State team is WAY better than that 2017 one.
